I agree with the other 2 reviewers. This album is not deserving of over a 60.

I would give it a 50 myself.

You can hear the start of the Strato sound in some songs, but I really don't see how anyone could really enjoy many of the songs on this. And I'm a huge fan of Stratovarius

The productin is bad, the songs themselves are blah, and there just isn't that much of a reason for me to put this in the player but every now and then.

This is my least favorite of the Strato album's. And hey, even Tolkki hates the album (And he said this before the whole depression incident).

this was my first Stratovarius.. I remeber I read a review in Hard Rock Magazine (france) saying how this was the new Malmsteen etc... I like Malmsteen back then so I bought the vinyl... back home, straight on the turnatable and... I immediatly liked it...

so, okay, it's not the Stratovarius that came back a few years later, it thrashier, rawly produced (high quality sound by BM standards  ) but, god, did I like this shit...

coming back to it with the perspective of the whole Stratovarius "oeuvre" it's still a very special album to me... it has all the 1rst album qualities I enjoy & I cannot find in (for exemple) Kreator's debut album... so, I still like it though it didn't spin for more than three years in my cd player.... until today !

i'll give it 85/100

Yeah, a bands first album you hear always has a special place. The first album I heard of Stratovarius was Infinite, so that's always been one of my favorites by them. Even though most people think that's when they were heading downhill music wise, I still love that album. Mother Gaia, Phoenix, Infinity, Hunting High and Low - just a great album.

So I guess thats why going into Fright Night I'd give it a 50, since I was used to their other sound. And I only started listening to metal in the 2000's with Savatage, so I guess my roots are different.

no, in fact we have the same roots but mine go deeper into the soil of heavy metal ! but since I must be much older than you that is no surprise & I'm sure one day you'll find some young metal head arguing that the first album of Pyramaze (or whatever it is your into now) is crap compared to their newer works... maybe it has already happened....

now playing : Persuader "The Hunter" (good but not as good as their 2004 album !)

Visions is the best Strato album...by far. The rest of their albums have good songs sprinkled here and there...but there's also a whole lot of crap. Such a shame, they had potential, but now they are another band lost in the fog of symphonic neo classical power metal. Boo hoo..
