This is some great stuff! The energy of this album is non stop and in your face. The quickness by which this album sinks in for me is comparable to what Wizard's "Goochan" did for me. If anything these two conceptual Power Metal albums will be on my top 15 of 2007 list for sure! The vocalist sounds like Rob Halford meets Bob Rock. As far as the vocalist sounding like Wade Black? I also was thinking that too. At first the constant screaming was a bit annoying but I find Wade Black's vocals almost unlistenable at times, especially on the "Astronomica" release with Crimson Glory.

If this packs as much punch as "Darker Than Black" then you know that this will share some quality time in my CD player.

Good review MetalNess

No I haven't. I just recently dug out Darker than Black not to long ago. I need to explore more by them.

No. It's definitely better than DTB. Actually, it's better than pretty much everything that flies around these days. This album is a masterpiece, it deserves the Paikiller comparisons completely, not only from a techical standpoint, but from a quality standpoint too. If you're gonna buy only one album this year, better make sure it's the new Cage. Not much else I can say right now. I'm simply crushed by this monster.

Bumping this because I'm relistening to this album and again I wonder at how powerful and brilliant it is. Even the bonus track slays (and it should be, it's dedicated to King Diamond). And Sean Peck is definitely insane, I think he's given this year an even better performance than Ripper has. Definitely my number 1 album of 2007. I'm a bit confused to see how this thread has received only 7 replies, Hell Destroyer completely smokes latest Helloween and Gamma Ray and pretty much everything else discussed to death in the power metal forums. Framing Armaggedon has 3 pages of discussions and even that is not this good.

Anyway, very good review Crims, it does justice to a great album.

Youre totally right this is one of my top albums for 2007, it was a long wait but it was definitely worth it, i never thought they could match Darker Than Black but this one is even better!.

????

Really?

I think this album is outstanding. It is getting a lot of praise, particularly on MR, but I think it is well deserved.

I love how this album manages to sound very aggressive while keeping a very melodic metal feel.

it has good energy, and rise of the beast is a decent track...but thats about it...this just doesn't do it for me.. some of the riffs are good, and some are very good, the vocals are bad, and so is the total sound of the album

I can understand not liking the album, personal taste or whatever, but to say the vocals are bad? Wtf! There used to be a guy here who said Halford can't sing worth a shit... don't be like him!

agreed, its got a nice aggression thing going on but the vocalist is too shrieky and not melodic enough for me. he just gets tedious to listen to o.o

he might grow on me though since i love Antiquus and their stuff is mostly falsetto'd

I'm oging to have to agree on this being a little overrated. I was expecting something spectacular and I didn't get it. But hell i'll give it another listen.

anyone think thier name is a little close to Rage?

speaking of which, why did slayer rip off slayed?'s name (later slade) and logo? they couldn't think of anything else. I know they didn't get it from the band "player"
