Weird seeing Marty review some grindcore. I still need to check out Napalm Death. Would this live album be a good place to start?

Perhaps. I'd say go for Smear Campaign or The Code Is Red.

I got sent this promo by the label and since no-one else wanted to review it, I felt obligated to do so as we try to review everything that is sent to us. I'll make no secret of the fact that I really don't care for grindcore, death metal or any other extreme form of metal with really harsh vocals. However, I realize that many really like that sort of metal and since Napalm Death is well regarded as one of the founders, I gave it an impartial and objective review. Truthfully, I can't tell the difference between good grindcore and bad grindcore. The buzz about this live CD is that it's the best live recording ever of the band in their entire career. Fans of the band deserve to see a review of this and I did my best to "give it a shot". This one's a rarity though...don't expect many more extreme metal reviews from me...wait...I have one more next week...LOL!!! but this one, I can actually get into...

Go with Smear Campaign. That album is just flat out amazing, and is far more than your typical Grindcore album. I rate it as one of their best, personally.

+1

As much as I loved Smear Campaign when I first heard it, I have actually grown to like it more over time. The riffs on that album are some of the best I've heard in the last few years, and Barney's vocals are one of a kind.

Got the DVD of this the other day. It's very good; the band are on fire and you can see the fans love 'em, with nearly all of the stage divers going over to Barney for a handshake or in one case a hug. What a band. Awesome.

And Marty, Breed To Breathe is a mid-to-late 90s track, as are Greed Killing and the DK and Death covers that you mentioned. Otherwise, a fine review.
