Fuck yea! I'm getting this. S/t was the shit and I had my doubts about this for obvious reasons but the review cleared them.

Nice review Jeff, a killer album IMO, Lowe fits perfectly with the band, Embracing The Styx is such a killer tune.

Killer album. Lowe fits perfectly. I loved Messiah too but Lowe has a very original voice and has added a lot to this album. And we'll always have the self titled album.

Doom album of the year.

Awesome album, I added my score. I think Lowe's vocals fit better for the more sinister riffing Leif wrote for this album. True, he can't hit some of the notes Messiah could, but the timbre of his voice is commanding and haunting nonetheless. After a couple of listens, I would put this just below the self-titled, but not by much.

At this point, I would have to agree, but that may change after I hear Reverend Bizarre's farewell epic.

With Marcolin being one of the best voices in the business it is odd that I find myself focusing on Lowe's singing while listening to this. There's something in his voice that is hypnotic.

I know I'm becoming a terrlbly annoying nitpicker lately :P but the Candlemass website link is wrong at the review. The correct one is:
www.candlemass.se

I like this album a lot. It's perfect for what it is.

It would be cool if band were a little less safe... "i wonder what these guys would sound like doing a pompous ten plus minute long song" syndrome. :P

Yeah, but that's never been their style. Why would they risk making a drastic change like that after over 20 years of success? Plus, I don't think traditional doom would work in a 10+ minute song due to the pace.

I just picked this up today. I've never even heard a Candlemass CD but I am so glad that this site exists otherwise I may have missed out on this release.....even worse, this band in general. I know ...I know...what rock have I been living under? Right? None the less, Jeff ..thank you. I love this CD. I listened to it completely in the car while running errands today. It kicks ass. I'm looking forward to buying it's predecessor soon too. :dio: :dio:

The band's overall sound (musically) on this CD reminds me of early Black Sabbath.

You should really check out their debut, Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, one of the best doom albums ever. :dio:

Glad the site influenced you to get into something "new". Definately check out their first four releases (Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, Nightfall, Ancient Dreams, Tales of Creation as well as their last with Messiah Marcolin, the self titled one). You won't be dissapointed! :)

Listen to the man. I heard Mirror Mirror a few weeks ago and I can't get that riff out of my head.
