I still think Voice OtV is their best. Album of the year? Already? Anyway it is pretty good indeed.

I saw Korpiklaani at Sweden Rock last month, they're like 10526x better live than they are on CD. And they're brilliant on CD! I'll be chekcing this bad boy out at some stage.

Kopriklaani pulled it of again. Three great albums in 3 years is no small feat. Tervaskanto may just end as my album of the year as well. Personally I think it's a step back from their previous album for the simple reason that i don't like a particular song, while Tales... on the other hand was perfect. It seems my opinion differs here from that of the reviewer but to me Vesilahden Veräjillä is too monotonous for a 7 min. track. They should have made it more varied if they wanted to keep my attention that long. Besides that the review is perfect and i agree with the score, this album is a masterpiece. :)

Another great thing about this album is that of the four drinking songs (Wooden Pints, Beer Beer, Happy Little Boozer and Let's Drink) I like Let's Drink the most. Palovana deserves a special attention too because to me it's the best Korpiklaani song and my fav. from Tervaskanto. I wouldn't be surprised if they release a new album next year too. Korpiklaani quickly became one of my favourite bands and now I hope I have the chance of seeing them live someday.

Hmmm... I don't remember Korpiklaani sounding like this. I'll have to check out there other albums, b/c this one is awesome.

I think Vesilahden Veräjillä would have been too monotonous in one of their other albums, but given that it's such a change of pace from the album as a whole, it works a bit better. I know what you mean by it being a "step back", since it seems more straightforward (at least in my ever-humble opinion) but they certainly pull it off.

Wooden Pints will always be my favorite of their drinking songs, but Let's Drink comes in a close second.

You're right about that. Tervaskanto is full of short and fast 3 min. songs and Vesilahden Veräjillä, much like Palovana, does provide a welcome change in pace but I still don't like this song as much as the rest. Interesting thing to know about this album is that their accordion player Juho wrote 5 of the songs (Veriset äpärät, Palovana, Running With The Wolves, Liekkiön Isku and Misty Fields). I think his only contribution was the instrumental bonus track Free Like An Eagle from the previous album. He certainly did a good job though.

Btw, you scored this 2 points higher than TATR. Is it because of the lyrics ? I remember you had an issue with the songs sung in english and on Tervaskanto there is only Misty Fields. I still haven't acquired the album so I never had the chance to read the translations. I doubt it's because of the album simplistic and straightforward nature. I'm curious to know, since you didn't made any comparisons between the two albums in your review. :)

No, I'd never deduct points for problems with a language that's not one's first. Lord knows I have enough problems with learning foreign languges - I'm certainly not going to nitpick others' skills. (Native speakers are another matter, however.)

The point difference is mainly because I thought Tervaskanto is a bit more cohesive than Tales, and because I felt the quality was more even through the album. Happy Little Boozer wasn't the best opener and Free Like An Eagle is probably my least favorite song they've done, with Hide Your Richess coming in at a close second. While Tervaskanto isn't my favorite album they've done, I can't point to a single track I dislike.

This album is great, although I rate Ensiferum's latest effort higher. I really miss the violin sound that was prominent on their previous work.
