I would rate this higher for a debut it shows a lot of promise. But it does sound similar to Masterplan so why leave one band to start another that sounds a lot like what you are doing? must have been issues.

This deserves no less than a 75. An 80 would be more accurate. This album is damn good. Yeah, it's similar to Masterplan in style, but that is no reason to dislike an album.

Pointing out that it sounds like Masterplan is not saying I dislike the album it's a good release. I just thought maybe Uli would do something different. But I don't think this album or Masterplan's latest are up there with Masterplan's first two especially the debut.

I agree with every criticism about this album. I does seem like Uli has run out of steem. Except for a few songs (Prince Of Darkness, Silent War), everything else feels like left-overs from the Beautiful Sin session. I think that the added electronics make the album feel even more superficial. I gave it 65 because Bjorn Jansson sounds just as good as he did in Beyond Twilight and because the songs have the potential to keep you entertained for the first few spins before you get bored. I'm sure the more I listen to New Protection the lower the score will get.

Btw, I don't know if this is from the mp3's I have but the drums are recorded way too loud. I know Uli wrote everything and this is his band and stuff but he didn't need to make his presence on the album that obvious.

Have to admit I'm bored wth this have been listening to Insania and other recent purchases heaps more. It's a solid album but nothing grabs you much Prince of Darkness is ok but even latest Masterplan had some tracks I replayed heaps.
