Having played with this band before, I think it incorrect to label them NWOBHM, and they are much better live as the music loses its energy and charm on record. They're basically a heavy garage rock band with some generic Thin Lizzy harmonies tossed in the mix.

Exactly.

1. They're not from Britain
2. Movement started early 80's, wouldn't call this part of a new wave

Let's call it "SABLNWOBHM" = sounds a bit like NWOBHM

Excellent band BTW

Calling it NWOBHM is wrong. The closest comparison would be to bands like Ethel the Frog and Gaskin, but those bands had a more 70's classic rocking feel to them. Thats the big difference. Bible of the Devil has a more modern Wolf Mother kind of feel to it. Don't get me wrong, they're pretty damn good live, but like I said the music falls flat in the studio. Sounds like NWOBHM is better for me, but going beyond the infrequent similarities is a stretch.

I have been a long time proponent of eliminating quotes and genre tags, but I realize the structured world we live in will not allow us to do that. You have made your point, so thanks for the clarification. If you leave out the genre tag, I'd say I described it pretty accurately, having mentioned the 70s rock and punk influences, and I stand by my score from what I hear on the CD. Whatever they are live, I'd reserve that judgment to you. But if they are, why not get a better sounding album, as that what the many of us will eventually hear, right?

Just listening to this now and these guys are awesome. Kickass trad metal guitar playing + tons of energy + ass kicking vocals = :dio: . Also I think the guitar tone is great, better than the overproduced stuff power metal bands are doing anyhow =X

As for genre, they were described to me as punky retro/stoner metal... lol (although it seems like any bands that you can describe with the words "punk", "retro" and "metal" kick ass :O)
