Ok, this is fucking urgent. I did a search of the reviews and the archived ones, and there is no review for either "Spectre Within" or "Awaken the Guardian" by Fates Warning.

This is criminal negligence. Awaken the Guardian is one of the top ten greatest heavy metal albums of all time, for me at least. But compared to all other metal, it is of such high quality that I demand an explanation for its absence. REVIEW IT, IT IS A FUCKIN CLASSIC!!!!

I'll be doing those down the road as well as some of the Alder era stuff.

haha, we got some Def Leppard in lieu of this undisputable classic.
I have been mentioning Seven Churches since '03 for fuck's sake.
Apparently, this and other irrefutable metal milestones have to take a back seat to such metal pioneers as Rush and Def Leppard.

Rush is far more influential and "classic" then Possessed ever will be, despite how awesome possessed is. So don't go shitting on Rush, they rock...and roll.

Maybe for Prog. Not much else.
Possessed influenced thrash and death metal more than Rush ever did. Rush isn't even metal, ffs; you could just as easily say that the Beatles influenced metal, or Elvis, or their UK contemporaries / equivalents since undoubtedly, they were what bands like Sabbath and Zeppelin were weaned on. But they aren't metal, and this is a metal reviews site, not a "bands that influenced metal" reviews site.

And I like old Rush, but damn, there are tons more important bands to the world of metal than them.

Aw, come on, loads of bands have been influenced by Rush. As for Possessed, I've given it a few listens but it seems slightly overrated to me, as influential as it undoubtedly was. You really want a classic review saying that? Is it such a calamity? Will the dead rise, the sky turn upside down and cats and dogs cohabit if Possessed - Seven Churches isn't immediately kicked up to the top of everyone's MUST-WRITE!!!11 list?

Any band that is picked could have arguments against it. Hell, I'm hardly Def Leppard's biggest fan. Does anyone out there still listen to My Dying Bride? You have to take each selection with a pinch of salt... that one album is chosen before another doesn't mean that the first is 'more classic'.

Possessed before Def Leppard please.

Zad, Possessed is not overrated. It hurts my eyes every time I see somebody write that.

Well I definately think that "Awaken the Guardian" by Fates Warning is far more classic than "Seven Churches" and as such demand it be reviewed first.

Zad: Of course, there are those that will disagree with that assessment.
But, I assert that Def Leppard Hysteria is not a classic, period. Not merely less of a classic than *insert album here*.

And I recall you wrote that you would like to see MR's be the foremost metal review site on the web... a good step in that direction would be considering the many classics that are mentioned in "that other thread". Not bagging on the site or complaining, only trying to offer a little constructive criticism.

Holy Terror: Awaken the Guardian is definitely a classic. So is Seven Churches. Arguing which is more classic is futile. For death and thrash, Possessed's is arguably more classic. For power / prog, of course Fates Warning... but Seven Churches pre-dates Awaken the Guardian by a year, so, there's that.
I still would like to see some Thin Lizzy before either of those, though.

As for what is considered a classic and what isn't, I think the classic request thread is a good indication of that

I dunno if Wheels of Steel by Saxon has been done? That's one hell of a classic!

Maybe Helix - Walking on The Razor's Edge 1983?

Or the title album for Tell No Tales?

All these fucking threads but no mention of Tapping the Vein, Stained Class, Symbolic, or Acid Bath? I now understand how being disenfranchised feels. So many choices yet no choice.

All worthy of classic status, but Symbolic to me is overrated (as far as Death albums go).

What about Venom's Black fucking Metal?

Oh man I didn't realize that Stained Class wasn't reviewed and that is indeed a classic in every sense of the word.

Considered to be one of Judas Priest's all time best.

We've had this conversation. Venom is lame.

I know Stained Class is JP's best. I take your enthusiasm to mean you will be reviewing it.

Yes Angel Witch does need a review. And as far as Thin Lizzy's concerned, everyone knows Jailbreak is a classic. I think Fighting should be given classic status because not a lot of people know about that album, and it is fantastically awesome hard rockin.

Running Wild's - Gates To Purgatory deserves classic status.
