I would like to see a review of my all time favourite album Savatage Streets- A Rock Opera, damn people if you guys havent listened to this album you dont know what you are missing, just pure magic, this is one of the most underrated albums ever, noone gives the credit that it deserves.

Like me, for instance. A guy at work lent it to me saying much the same as yourself, but I could just not get into it. Reminded me too much of Extreme. They should have called it A Hair Metal Opera.

Add my name to the list of people that want to see In Flames-The Jester Race as a classic.

Pre-jail Burzum is good. I know it can be hard to stomach the fact that music with bad muscianship and horrible production can be good but it's true.

My Dying Bride-Turn Loose the Swans was a great doom album and very influential on doom in the 90s so I'd like to see it reviewed.

First, let me state what a metal "classic" means to me, someone who's been around the block a few times at the ripe old age of 40. A classic is an album that I've had in my collection for at least ten years, preferably 15 or 20, and still finds it's way into my system on a somewhat regular basis. If I haven't listened to it in the past year, it probably isn't a classic in my book...unless it's a lost classic which show up every now and then and totally gets my blood pumping again like it was 1983.

With that in mind, here are a few suggestions (mostly obscure) that really made an impact on my life:

OZZY: Blizzard of Ozz, Diary of a Madman (top of the list)
Savatage: Hall of the Mountain King, Gutter Ballet, Streets
Scorpions: Lovedrive, Animal Magnetism, Blackout
Fates Warning: The Spectre Within, Awaken the Guardian
Blue Oyster Cult: Imaginos
Demon: The Unexpected Guest
Saxon: Wheels of Steel
Riot: Fire Down Under
Michael Schenker Group: Assault Attack
Fastway: Fastway, All Fired Up
Metallica: Kill 'Em All
Rainbow: Rising, Long Live Rock N Roll
Running Wild: Under Jolly Roger
Europe: Wings of Tomorrow
Kick Axe: Vices
Anvil: Metal on Metal, Forged in Steel
Alcatrazz: No Parole From Rock N Roll
Tygers of Pan Tang: Spellbound
Warlord: Best of (hate 'best ofs', but it applies here)
Coney Hatch: Best of (see above)
Malice: License to Kill
KISS: Music from the Elder
Triumph: Allied Forces
RUSH: 2112, Moving Pictures
Great White: Great White
220 Volt: Electric Messengers
Q5: Steel the Light
Talas: Sink Your Teeth Into That
Diamond Head: In the Beginning
Cirith Ungol: Frost and Fire

EGADS! That's a long list. And I'm sure I forgot just as many albums as I mentioned. Well, it's a starter list anyway. Dig deep, rock out.

I wanna see more Savatage... Savatage rules... Anyways, I'd like to see:

Savatage - Hall of The Mountain King, Streets

Those are two amazing albums by an amazing band.
Also (I know its a recent one) but Blind Guardian's "A Night At The Opera" is absolutely amazing.. I've had it for 2 years.. It has never left my CD player and I dont see the day it does coming anytime soon. I know it was reviewed and all, but I didn't see it in the classics, which is where it should be.

I would like to see anything by Cirith Ungol....or possibly Agent Steel's Unstoppable Force. It is probably one of the most classic slabs of old school power metal that you can find out there. Hopefully I can renew interest in this album so that John Cyriis reappears..

Add KING DIAMOND-Abigail, Fatal Portrait, Them and MERCYFUL FATE-Melissa, these albums are, in my view, absolutely essential especially Melissa.

Gorgoroth: Under the Sign of Hell

And this is only BM classics
Hvis Lyset Tar Oss is 100% a classic and the best album Varg ever created, but if we forget for one moment that it ever existed...
then Burzum will take it's place! You can't even describe the hate that dwells on this opus... The horrors that are about to consume you together with all your feelings...
Behold! The Dawn of Burzum! ...
- Shut up already! Just be silent and enjoy It.

I feel sorry for those who can't understand this type of music...

P.S. I really don't get it, is it a joke that In the Nightside Eclipse isn't a CLASSIC?

Ask valefor if it's a joke. Personally, I don't find it to be very funny.

Maybe, at that point, everyone was adverse to the idea of black metal classics.

Seems like a pretty acceptable list, what about moonblood's blut und krieg? Still I think the main thing we need is Hvis as a classic, the rest can wait...

And yes, I agree with Dead Machine, for some months ago, this place was mainly powermetal and (true) black metal was not accepted. It was reviewed ocasionally, but you know how someone who never listened to black metal enjoys the production...

Agreed. But Quorthon's albums are as vital (Damn, even Mr. Manson and Metallica's members listened Bathory :x (if we forget about guys like Satyr, Frost and Fenriz  )) as Hvis is.

And Quorthon's "department" (R.I.P.) is yet another reason for his albums to be mentioned here, on this site, as classics.

That was my first review and I was not wholly familiar with the protocol regarding CLASSIC categorization...
note it has a perfect score, that is 100/100.
It is definitely a classic, though.

I whole heartedly agree with Hvis Lyset Tar Oss. But, I also want to intervein and say anytime in the next year, someone please put up a classic review of Under the Sign of the Black Mark by Bathory. Or, possibly Blood Fire Death.

You know, almost any non-reviewed Bathory album would be acceptable.

Venom - Black Metal... if there ever was a classic, this is IT!
Rudimentary? perhaps, but this is the epitome of METAL!
When I first heard this in the rainy winter of '83, I was in fucking awe...
If not for the Black Metal Gods, who knows what we'd be listening to now?
This album owned all other lesser mortal bands during its time, and even today retains it's godly status.

Hooded figures, clouded skies
fires burn within their eyes
pentagram of baphomet midnight strikes
goat of mendes lifts his head
summons up the living dead
virgin flesh lies tied and bound
hail satanas

S.A.C.R.I.F.I.C.E.
scream for mercy cry and repent satan claims your soul
sacrifice, sacrifice, oh so nice, sacrifice

Candles glow on alters bare
a virgin's death is needed there
sacrifice to lucifer my master
bring the chalice raise the knife
welcome to my sacrifice
plunge the dagger in her breast
I insist

S.A.C.R.I.F.I.C.E.
limbs weaken life flies away demons rejoice
sacrifice, sacrifice, name your price, sacrifice

Death is swift `neath satans' sword
all the same young and old
life means nothing to my lord
drink from chalice warm and sweet
virgin's hearts final beat
lightning strikes the virgin dies
satan smiles

S.A.C.R.I.F.I.C.E.
the moon is black the witches dance, heaven is denied
sacrifice, sacrifice, sacrifice, sacrifice
