Ya know, I'm not complaining, but of all the albums deserving Classic status that are absent here, this is what is chosen?
Sorry; not a classic. Hell, Pyromania is more deserving as is High and Dry, though honestly, those even fall short.
The thread that asks which classics would you like to see reviewed here seem to be completely forsaken.
Just my $0.02.

A good album as far as Def Leppard goes, but they've never done anything classic if you ask me.

Shit album. Pyromania is better and neither are classic worthy. But I'm just being a pout.

You Snobby bitches. Of course its a classic.

It has 6 or 7 of their best known tracks ( hell thats probably an understatement, its damn near a 'best of' album just on its own) and contains almost no filler. It also sold a bajillion copies.

Its probably the greatest metal-pop album of all time.

It's not like we have a massive list of classics that are rated from 'worthiest' to 'completely and utterly unworthy'. It's largely due to each reviewer's discretion which album he reviews; I certainly wouldn't have written Def Leppard up, but I doubt Storm would have done Napalm Death or Discharge.

Think of the classics section as presenting arguments why a certain album is a classic, rather than telling you what you already know. As for the What Classics? thread, yes, it could be worked on a little faster, but it would spoil things - or so I think - if four classics a week went up. They're CLASSIC albums, take a few weeks to enjoy each one! Eventually, logic dictates that we'll run out of classic releases, having done them all, and so we might as well hold that day off for a little while, no?

I like this one. I got 11 Def Leppard albums. This is one of the best in my opinion. It was the most successful of theirs as it had 10 Gold tracks on it but there are still some tracks off Pyromania and High & Dry that have a more attitude to them in my opinion. Adrenalize has even got some fun songs on there. If I could make the perfect album I would combine them! :D But Hysteria gets the Classic Award because it has the most gold records on it and I think it's the 39th most selling album to date.

Fair enough, and I understand the time it takes to do this, but, like I said, IMEHO, this does not qualify, regardless of genre. If a hard rock album is going to be done, it should be one with at least some balls.
You know that not everybody is going to agree with every review, and by posting one, one is going to be subjected to either of three things in varying degrees: agreement, indiffernce or disagreement.
But enough of that; what have you got in mind for the next classic?

Looking at my list, either Entombed - Left Hand Path, Nocturnus - The Key, Slayer - Show No Mercy or Mercyful Fate - Melissa. Maybe I'll poll it, they all seem pretty worthy, they're the ones I have queued up at the moment. I could stick the Possessed and Fates Warning on too, just to make things interesting... Poll coming soon...

Would you mind terribly if I took Melissa? I've been listening to it constantly lately.

And just to clarify. A classic isn't just a great album with a bunch of good songs. It's an album that has made a major impact with fans over the years from the time of the release till now. Like it or not Hysteria made an impact from 1987 and still does.

You may hate Def Leppard or you like them doesn't matter. What matters is that Hysteria was a major impact when it came out and still continues to be an impact as a new generation starts to look into yesteryear and starts listening to those big time albums.

I agree dude. Totally and nicely put. 10 Gold tracks says it all and it continues to hold the line to today.

This is very encouraging news, indeed.
A masterpiece all around.

>contains almost no filler

Except for boring, monotonous, COMPLETELY meaningless throw-away tracks like "Armageddon It," "Rocket," and that abomination that no self-respecting metalhead would ever play on purpose, "Pour Some Sugar On Me." How did that crap get so much airplay? There's absolutely nothing to any of those songs. No talent required, whatsoever. There are some great tracks on the album, but every time I hear those three songs, I want to kill somebody. And I don't have violent tendencies.

Needless to say, Def Leppard's deterioration into a run-of-the-mill pop band pretty much killed my fan status.

On the other hand, Keeper of the Seven Keys, Pt. I was released that year, so it wasn't a total loss.

:D who cares about howmuch talent is takes man! jeez! i can think of shite loads of bands that weren't technically awesome but they were still fun and great to listen to.

who cares about how much talent you have when you look that good anyways? lol. as most of them made their success by looking great anyways.

Aesthetic quality is no basis for judgement of musical validity.

Personally, I can't stand anything this band did after the second album. After that they kind of devolved into WAY over produced into drivel. And I agree with The Professor, "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is a vomit inducing song. On the other hand, I understand why this was reviewed as a classic.

I thought only chicks based their musical interests on how good a band looks.
