Sweet review! I've been meaning to pick this up for a fair while. Clandestine is awesome too!

I remember listening to this one when it came out and thinking "I'll never like this kind of music". As of today, I still feel the murky/muddy production kills it.
To me, the finest album Entombed ever released (and which deserves a classic status indeed) is Wolverine Blues, now, that's music even if I understand Death-Metal-kiddies must have been disappointed with it.

These guys are playing the Sweden Rock Cruise, I might have to get myself acquainted with them before the cruise if they're this good.

Death metal's finest hour. Morbid Angel and Death were more complex but nothing can top the sheer crushing brutality of this record. The raw production feels totally perfect with the band's now trademark "buzzsaw" guitar tone taking center stage and Lars Petrov's unearthly vocals driving you even deeper into the abyss. The fact that the band were between the ages of 17 and 18 when they recorded this album is just unreal. But the real beauty of this release for me is the variety of styles the band draws from. Thrash, doom, death (of course) and even hardcore can be heard here and yet it all works so well. But enough gushing, go out and buy this fucker if you don't already have it!

Didn't know they were 17/18 when they recorded this. Cool.

I'm with TTD on this, Left Hand Path is a classic, Inferno's not though it's a good album.

By the way, any chance of a review of the new Entombed (Entombed A.D.'s debut) album, Back to the Front?

This was a very good album, with awesome sounding production and one of the most memorable death metal tracks of all time in the title track, but I'll take Morbid Angel, Atheist, or Death's best moments over it any day. Even speaking strictly in Scandinavia, I preferred Sentenced's North From Here, Demilich's Nespithe, and Therion's Beyond Sanctorum, all of which came out within a few years of this release.

All excellent albums by great bands, but this record in particular is the perfect combination of elements that I love seeing in a death metal album. The guitars are heavy as fuck with simple yet effective riffs that destroy necks on sight. Raw, muscular production that still manages to maintain great atmosphere throughout the record. LG Petrov's vocals on this album stand among any in the genre and the band's lyrical subject matter fits the tone of the music to a tee. It's that magical period where death and thrash melded to produce animals like Left Hand Path, Altars of Madness, Scream Bloody Gore and others. This just stands above them all in my opinion. Morbid Angel's chaotic riff structures sound a little too busy at times and Death never produced an album that even touches the bone crunching heaviness of LHP. Schuldiner's shriek vocals became more grating as the band went on in my opinion. Did they produce more intricate and musically complex works than Entombed? Absolutely. Were they better? I don't think so.

Coincidence, perhaps?

Quoting is not your strong point I take it.

In some threads the BBCode is turned on (and the quotes work) and in others it isn't (and they don't). I don't know how to enable it from my end or if I have to get permission from the system administrator. Perhaps you can enlighten me, o sage of the interweb.

Not Death metal's finest hour, but its a good album for a Swedish dm album I guess.
