Classic indeed. :dio:
This is FNM's second best for me (after King for a Day).
I'd give this one a 95/100 as I never give a perfect score to an album.

Interesting choice and I guess about time.

It is a classic probably because of its impact, but I've never dug every track on this album. A lot of the tunes on it I kind of think of as novelties that aren't really substantial and worthwhile music (RV f.ex). That said, there are some really, truly great pop metal songs (Everything's Ruined, A Small Victory, etc. etc.).

I still think I'd take Mr. B over FNM as Patton-related projects go, most days of the week.

Hell yeah.

Great review. There really is so much going on in this album, so many different elements, it's hard to keep track of it the first few times through. Once you get it, though, it really comes together.

Crack Hitler is probably my favorite, but every other song is just as good... and for me, I honestly couldn't decide between King For A Day and Angel Dust. Both are mind blowing.

That's my thoughts on this. My favorite is The Real Thing, the least experimental one I believe.

Mine too... But this is a classic indeed, and a great album. I never really like so much King For A Day, perhaps it's time to give it another try.

Definitely FNM's best album and worthy of being classed as classic. Just to continue the RV debate - I think the song is a pile of shit but it fits in so well with the rest of the album that it somehow works!!

i think although this has some catchy songs,it's overall the least catchy of the 4 albums with Patton;still a great album nonetheless, and the 1st album i've heard from this very weird(and talented) band.

Rightfully a Classic. Has some of the catchiest damn songs I've ever heard.

Also, KoRn so wants to be this band.

Moody, unpredictable, insane, genius. I remember the day this came out; I'd not anticipated an album release as much as this since ...And Justice, & I'd saved up especially. Zad said all that was needed to be said in the review, but the impact of this album was immense in the circles I hung around with. The first listen made me realise that the time for games were over and music was growing up. See you later big hair, leather trousers, bandana & bare chest.

Swinging between Mr Bungle's genre destroying debut and the clean focus of 'The Real Thing', the dense production took all the best elements of those projects and created a masterpiece. Sure, I skip RV every time, it's tongue-in-cheek humour annoys me after a while, but even that spoof in the first person perspective of its cynical, miserable blue collar subject can inspire a drunken singalong in the wee hours.

Post-millennial music has often failed to reach similar heights of gonzo humour, spontaneity, tension and cynicism; even the likes of The Mars Volta, who too often get lost in the abstract. Were it not for Grunge, plus the way Korn, et al, were soon to take slabs of Metallica riffs and beat fledgling rock-rap into Nu Metal, 'Angel Dust' would have stood out a bit more from the mix & be more influential in the manner it was intended - a weary social critique of how people get lost and stuck on trivial things than address the overlying tensions that keep people from fulfilling their full potential. The best alternative metal album of the 90s; Ænima & al.
