Hell yes!
Walk the Path of Sorrow is one of the top black metal tracks ever for me. This album, and particularly that track, lives up to it's namesake.
Well done.

Well, not a huge admirer of this album... the compositions don't really seem to go very far. As far as I remember there's even a stupid damn flute on there somewhere isn't there?

Anyway, seeing this band live really made me appreciate them more, expecially Mother North which was really blistering as a closer, and you really have to see it to believe how powerful it is. But don't really have too much time for this debut.

Each to their own, though.

Yeah, I feel like maybe I just don't get early Satyricon, but I don't care much for this album. Satyricon seem to get lost in black metal's history, untill 1996 when all their contemporaries had already released their best works, and they released a very good album, albeit with a 'good' production and loads of melody.

When I saw them live it appeared that Satyr was playing a Soulfly guitar...

Even though I don't approve of their publicity stunts, they are a very important part of black metal history. This album is amazing and awesome.

Maybe publicity stunt is the wrong expression for it, but hanging around with Phil Anselmo and having Slipknot's drummer as a live session player was really ridiculous. Are there no other drummers in the whole US of A that can play the drums for mother north? Why choose someone so high profile, if not to create controversy and get media exposure?

I tend to value artists who let their art speak for itself more. I guess that's just me.

Satyricon plays sold out festivals and is a pretty big band in Norway are they not? Why does it matter if they hang out with other popular icons of metal?

Well look at this way: Enslaved are really popular in Norway too, and they don't pull stunts like that. Also Enslaved would never make a video like KING.
