Yes!

This album is trully a legendary piece of art!

DreamTheater is incredible. How sincronizated they play their very well
done musics!

The Killer-Killer-Killer Song: Metropolis Part 1

This is a "out-of-this-world" album.

Best Regards 8)

When I heard my first Dream Theater song, I thought it was 'pretty good, but not really my style'; that song was 'Pull Me Under'. A sizeable Dream Theater CD collection and a Dream Theater gig T--Shirt later, I've realised how naive I was!

Although it's a more conventional prog-metal album (if prog-metal can be conventional!), it's an extremely strong one at that and although I more or less have all of DT's albums on an equal line, 'Images And Words' was the album that introduced Dream Theater to the world as they are today (WDADU doesn't count :P), and so is rightfully a classic!

When will we see a review of their other masterpeice: Metropolis II?

About Images and Words, I think Dream Theater broke from this sound too early, I would love to have heard atleast a couple more albums of theirs in the same vein as this one. Awake is a great album and all, but it doesn't have the same feeling as this one.
Too much wankery perhaps...

Definitely one of the best albums I've ever heard. Hell, it hasn't even got a dull moment :)

It was overrun by Operation Mindcrime a while ago though, but it sure was a close call ;)

The CD that put DT in my radar and got me into them back in '98, picking up all their CDs to that point and awaiting eagerly for SFAM and the Live Scenes CD (since OIAL was not a great live representation at all)... I lost track of them for awhile though and didn't even know about 6 Degrees and Train until earlier this year when amazingly I heard "As I Am" on the radio. *gasp* I picked up Train but have not gotten 6 Degrees, and hence would like to know how that one is

Amazing album, definately worthy of being called a classic.. Pull Me Under, Surrounded, Learning To Live, ETC.. All classic songs. Though I have to admit, I prefer Awake to Images & Words.. But Images is my second favorite.. Personally I dont think DT released a CD as good as their first 2. I mean they have good releases, but I guess I just expect more, maybe I shouldn't, oh well.

First two albums of Dream Theater are "When day and dream unite" and Images and words".

I know WDADU was their first, in 1989 I think.. But I've never heard it and I'm told it has a different singer and is kinda crappy so just for the hell of it, Im not gonna count it cuz Im like that..

My favorite album from DT might as well be When Dream and Day Unite... After A Change of Season, this was the first I heard of DT so it's rather nostalgic to me. hehe. One of the few albums I like ALL songs on. The singer has better range tha La Brie (not that it takes very much to surpass him though) but he has a somewhat thin voice... I love it all the same. Fits the music perfectly! The album also suffers from a rather poor sound (plus that the songs weren't as heavy as some of the newer songs), but I think DT released a new edition of this album a couple of years ago. Never heard it. The albums I dislike the most are actually Images and Words and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence... lol... lucky me;)

There are those kind of albums you can describe as art. Images and Words is one of them!

Yes this album was the first DT album i heard, it changed the way i look at life and it introduced me to Progressive Metal genre, the atmosphere in this album is unreal...

"I was told there's a miracle for each day that I try
I was told there's a new love
that's born for each one that has died
I was told there'd be no one to
call on when I feel alone and afraid
I was told if you dream of the next world
You'll find yourself swimming in a lake of fire" Metropolis Pt.1 :P

100+/100

ok, this is supposed to be their best album... the classic one... I, for sure, find it way overrated... some good songs, a cheesy ballad and.... ho ! here comes the technical shit ruining the songs (I did not say the W word ! :P )

so okay, this is not bad... but not that good either....

for me it's a 65/100 (higher score they'll ever get from me unless they completely change their musical views...) :?

I can definately understand your view of DT, the whole wankery thing, is the big argument with them, hey even i can agree that in songs like metropolis pt 1 the jam halfway through the song sorta takes you out of the fold until it picks back up, but it is who they are you know, i would wonder too what they would sound like if they had a different style. of course i say it just wouldn't be Dream Theater, plus a little wankery never killed anyone

sure ! but I think it could be pretty nice if they tried releasing an album including simple short songs (like 5mn max !)... then, if they're strong enough they'll still be DT .... if not, they'll be another sell-out band !

Yeah i like to see that too, would be nice and interesting, although judging by how many tracks are on the new album- 8 , you know what that means, more Wan-Wan , maybe one day though, i just hope this album is better then Train of Thought, i didnt really like that one.

Images And Words is one of my favorite albums ever, and is THE reason DT is my #1 favorite band. Pull Me Under is the best DT song ever written, if you ask me, plus, I really love the keyboard solo.
