The reviewer compares this album to Manowar, but I would rather compare Omen with Iron Maiden.

Galloping bass, guitar sound and riffs for instance are more reminescent of Iron Maiden.

The music overall is very well crafted. Vocals though are much weaker than Bruce Dickinson's or Eric Adams'. Production of the CD that I bought is kinda weak.

Compared to Maiden's efforts at that time I would rate this album 80/100.

I'd have to say they sound like an Iron Maiden clone, not much more than that, really. I agree they probably deserve at least an 80.

Jeez, Holy_Terror must be spitting teeth that THIS eighties disc got classic status.

Its a Maiden/Manowar mix. My only problem with the album is there arent any harmonies just octaves. Still a great album though,.

Great album. Was listening to it a lot over the last month and I love it. I think it influenced a lot of power metal bands.

I checked out Warning of Danger by them, and that sounds a heck lot better, great in fact.

I haven't heard that, actually, I have one song from it on my computer... I only own Battle Cry. I would like to own their whole catalogue.

I suppose its a matter of taste, I just found there to be more A-level moments on Warning of Danger, although some might think it's a little more commercial sounding. Regardless, it's nice to be introduced to some really good 80s metal, Battle Cry included. Unfortunately I was only in grade 6 or 7 when this came out and back then I was only listening to the big names.

How the hell can you compare Fagowar to Omen, this band dumps on Battle Hymns and anything those hacks have ever done. I regret not reviewing this album.. :dio:

Manowar once was a terrific band... in terrible costumes.
Omen at their best doesn't reach the sole of their shoes.

A terrific band with nauseatingly bad lyrics, weak riffs, and some of the funniest "Toughguy" vocals I've ever heard. Seriously, any band that comes up with the lyrics "If you like metal, you're my friend" needs to be dragged into the street and shot. Any USPM band from Satan's Host to Helstar could smash their "legacy", they are the biggest group of hacks in heavy metal.

Manowar are metal's answer to the Village People.

Into Glory Ride has some good tracks on it, but beyond that, yeah, they pretty much blow.

this album OBLITERATES anything manowar has ever or will ever release, one of the best eighties metal albums in my opinion, inside the top twenty for sure and well deserving of classic status

in fact I'm cranking Battle Cry right now

This may make me sound like a prick, but given how knowledgeable I presume to be, I don't consider anything a classic that I have not heard of before and this totally fits that bill...

yeah that does make you sound like a bit of a dick but I'm not sure if this album would cater to your tastes or not (not knowing you all that well just yet) picture a slightly heavier but less melodic Killers (I assume you to be familiar with Maiden) and that's what this album sounds like to me though DiAnno's vocals are a little more consistent

I'm sure this album won't cater to my tastes. I just don't know what makes it a classic.

it's got some great guitar hooks on it, the songs are catchy without being commercial and this album is better then what many bands were releasing at the time, to me that makes it a classic but then again I didn't write the review so perhaps you'd best ask (hey I think goat wrote this one didn't he) the reviewer

Way too early for Zad to have written it. Classic doesn't equal good in my book. It's already been set in stone so no use bitching.
