Grayceon? Progressive or Avantgarde?
Grand Magus? Metal or Doom?

The new Grand Magus is definitely way more heavy metal than doom... Hence it goes in the heavy metal thread I believe.

Can Enslaved, Ihsahn or Cynic go in the progressive thread? Motorhead and Valkyrie in the Heavy thread?

I would put motorhead in the hard rock section.
ADX (speed metal) closer to heavy metal or to thrash metal?
I would say its back to their thrash roots so it belongs to the thrash section, but i'm not sure?

and what about bassinvaders?

I changed my power metal list to include the new Winterborn album. It's so much better than Cold Reality it's unbelievable. I recommend it to anyone who is still undecided about their top 5.

it would be easier if heavy and power metal were 2 different topic. 2 many good albums came out  .
+Dezperadoz: heavy or prog?

I'd label ADX as thrash especially the new one.

Post subject:

thanks.
Is it ok if i put in two list in the heavy/power topic?
5 bands for heavy and 5 for power? Its just ridicule to take those two together.
+ pyramaze shoudn't be in prog but in power topic!

You guys are taking the prog genre to far. Opeth is more death metal than prog, and enslaved definitely belongs in black metal... no question. I can see Cynic here, but that is more tech death.

What's Progressive about Operatika?

Where would be a good spot for Evergrey? Because Im seeing it split up in both by quite a few, including me.

Just a heads up to all...
:)

I put my "Top 5" list on both the 'Power' and 'Prog' threads, as most of the CDs on the list could easily belong in either thread.

Also, I believe Armory's 'The dawn of enlightenment' is actually a late-2007 release, otherwise it would have been on my list in the #2 spot.
:D

Well that's daft. Can you not seperate them? They won't be counted for both sections, I'm sure you've heard more than five power metal albums.

And Operatika aren't Prog.

What's not progressive about Scar Symmetry? I would much rather have someone engage in a conversation about the merits of whether the band has progressive characteristic in their music than run with the standard  emoticon to then give off the impression that I'm somehow deficient in my selection.

Yeah, come on people, Melodeath is Melodeath, however good it is. I think to get the 'Prog' label there has to be real steps in that direction.

i dunno, the majority of the songs don't even have any growling. the only song i'd consider more death metal than prog on Watershed is "Heir Apparent". it wouldseem weird to me if Watershed was called the best death metal album of the year :\

Scar Symmetry has sufficient enough "progressive" stylings on "Holographic Universe" to have it heavily considered as a progressive metal album. I personally don't see how you can't detect it. Scar Symmetry is certainly an eclectic mix of styles and genres but I feel to stereotype them into one category such as melodic/death would be a n insufficient description of the bands material.
