I wish both Garm and Ihsahn sung like they did a decade ago with the deep, operatic style. I hate this high-vocal nonsense.

I agree, but mostly for Garm. I'd say Ihsahn reached his peak more about 5 years ago, and has yet to bother me as much as Garm.

Speaking of which. What kind of nonsense is Garm up to on the track he does?

Yeah. I really enjoyed Ihsahn's clean vox on An Elegy of Icaros. I'd say Garm is negatively influencing Ihsahn's singing. Stop the squealing madness.

If you're speaking of Homecoming, there's Garm himself on that one.

I can hear it throughout the whole album, though I was wondering about that.

I don't think this one's been posted, so here's a recent interview (?) with Ihsahn:

Heard the "Called By The Fire" track, and apart from a nice riffy opening, this is exactly what I was afraid he'd do. I must get Prometheus before my opinion of the guy plummets completely...

Um yeah. Prometheus is about 10 times better than this.

Finally got around to checking out the samples, I actually prefer this to Emperor. I can never really get into albums like Nightside Eclipse and Anthems because so much of it just sort of blurs together in a wall of sound. In this new shit, I can pick out every single note, and hear every single word. I agree that the higher pitch singing is kind of off putting but his screams still kick ass.

(taken from the above interview)

I think that some of the reason why I came because I was in contact with Rob Halford, about possibly doing something with him, and so it started out as a mix between wanting to do a solo album at some point but also I got in touch with him and we talked about doing something together.

Interesting.

After hearing the album finally, this is following the path I thought it would. That being the one where everyone else goes "OH MY GOD, FUCK THIS SELLOUT CRAP", and I think it's a fantastic album. I think every Emperor album has met with that response.

And the mix sounds much better than it did from the samples or the video. So I'm happy about that, although it still could have been better. The King Diamond-isms really only get bad in Panem et Circenses, where he still sounds better than that legendary terrible hack.

And He Shall Walk in Empty Places fucking rules.

I didn't think "sell-out" when I heard it. My first thought was "Where can I get some of what he was smoking" I'll still buy it though, I'm sure it has plenty of Ihsahn brilliance.

I'll still buy it. And I have yet to hear "And He Shall Walk in Empty Places", and that might drastically change my opinion of the album.

I think it is a pretty good album, entartaining. Nothing near the greatness of emperor's work but good nonetheless..

75/100

That track is an anomaly. It's the only song that sounds like that.

Hear the bleeding album, Zad, okay? It's a good album.
