I will state the obvious and say that these guys are one the most forward-thinking and most groundbreaking bands out there. From their lyrical subject matter to their staggering musical abilities and ideas they have redefined what Black Metal was before. But I know not everyone shares the same thoughts and ideas as I do. So what are your thoughts on this band and the rationale for not liking them or not finding them very interesting as the rest of the BM community around the world does. Please share. |

Easily one of the best black metal bands currently. I might enjoy them more than say second wave Norwegian stuff, but it'd be hard to claim that they are better than any of those bands. Their music really constructs an atmosphere in ways that other bands don't. No other band is able to create such an haunting and ominous tone like they do. I spent yesterday just listening to the three Prayers from SMRC. So fucking beautiful and dark. |

no SMRC is fine, and some of their Darkthrone influenced stuff is good as well. |

They're a really good band but I don't listen to them much. |

So this thread made me listen to the album with the orange squid thing going on. It's pretty good. |

I actually figured you would like their newer stuff. It may not be pure BM anymore but they've definitely evolved into something entirely unique and quite awesome. |

only have Paracletus at this point but it's so fucking awesome (in my opinion) that I will eventually get more of their stuff, trouble is I have a ton of suggestions to get through before that can happen, seriously I've been working on these lists for over a year now and I'm only close to finishing one of them (power metal) so it could be quite some time before I'm in a position to expand on any of the bands I have purchased already |

I like them, but don't listen much. So yeah, agree with Husker. |

Agreed. Kenose and part of SMRC were the highlights for me. Paracletus gave me the same reaction most Meshuggah albums give: great in 15-18 minute chunks, painful to hear the whole album. |

I'm a total fanboy of DsO. The day they got me entirely was when I read the interview made by the AJNA Offensive. That must be one of the most interesting reviews (the answers especially) I had ever read. For example, I concur with them in that the evolution of the musical aspect must be linked to the philosophical/lyrical and visual ones. Most Metal bands have great music but the lyrics and artwork left much to be desired. With DsO the whole concept and design is very coherent. The booklets are amazing, especially that from the Kenose ep. They are a band that evolves their sound tremendously from one album to another, and that's a good and bad thing. I would've loved at least another album in the vein of SMRC. |

Indeed, Fas and Parecletus have this effect on me too. |
