No brainer here. Deicide have two solid albums. Morbid Angel have two strong albums and 1 genre defining record in Altars Of Madness. Morbid Angel is therefore the better band.

Morbid Angel takes this on the strength of Altars alone. Aside from the last album, the band really hasn't released any stinkers in the 20+ years they've been in existence. Deicide, on the other hand, have put out some fairly pedestrian stuff over the years. Agreed with RO, this is a no-brainer.

Yeah. I love the first couple of Deicide albums and there have been some gems since but a lot of dirt. Morbid, on the other hand, are interesting even at their lowest, the hilarious mess of Illud.

I really like Deicide but Morbid Angel has the better albums in Altars and Covenant.

Morbid Angel without a doubt.

No death metal fan really needs to hear anything Deicide has ever done. Every death metal fan needs to hear Altars Of Madness. that was enough for me. Throw in a discography with just one major failure and Morbid Angel trump many of their contemporaries for me. Death wipe the floor with them though. Symbolic is a weak point but even it has good stuff going on and the rest of their albums are fantastic imo.

I think that is an exaggeration, but safe to say Death vs Morbid Angel would be a much more balanced poll question than this one.

Perhaps a bit, Altars and Blessed Are The Sick rival anything Death did.

I was always a much bigger fan of Covenant than Blessed Are the Sick.

A bit overzealous on RO's part, but I do agree that the Death discography was consistently stronger over time than Morbid's output. Trey and Company's first three records are stone cold death metal classics but, from that point forward, there was a definite dip in quality.

Agreed with Husker on Covenant versus Blessed, in fact, I'd say Covenant was their best album.

Formulas and Gateways are better produced and more modern sounding, but I'm not seeing any real drop in quality versus their first 3 albums. Domination was a bit of a weak point if you ask me, but the cracks really didn't showing until Heretic.

Domination was a big disappointment coming off the heels of the immortal Covenant and the Steve Tucker-era stuff never really clicked for me. The band slowed the pace down a little too much and the production didn't crackle with the same energy that it did on the earlier albums. It's not that the post-Covenant releases are poor but, to my ears, those records just don't measure up to the first three Morbid albums. To be fair, Altars of Madness is a hell of a standard to match for any band.

Ain't that the truth. Altars is a pillar of the genre all death metal fans must hear. Most bands will go their entire career without reaching such lofty heights.

I disagree with that. Deicide's debut is a masterpiece and a must have for any DM fan. Usually, I end up being in the minority. But here, I am with everyone else. Though I like Deicide and have listened to more Deicide than Morbid Angel, MA wins comfortably. Now that Steve Tucker is back, hope they release a solid DM album.

Agreed with Thy Serpent here. Early Deicide is great stuff. The Stench of Redemption is a great recent record as well that beats out a lot of the Steve Tucker era Morbid Angel stuff.

I like the debut ok but I really don't rate Deicide that highly. Their first two are solid, Stench is ok I guess but a bit predictable, don't care for the rest of their work.

Both bands don't do much for me. Benton is a tryhard, too.

Glen Benton's act is hilarious.
