I listined to that song. I don't think much of it. It sounds like they can't figure out a style. The beginning is cool with just her voice but the mid parts don't flow togather well and it sounds like they can't figure out if they want to be a radio band (hint the new metal chords which ruined the new LC) or do their own thing. The orchestral parts are just not needed either (music like this should be simple to work). Shit there is about 85 styles going on at one time here. Her voice is great, but she needs to go to Finland and find a band that can write songs for her. Shit even the dude from HIM could help her. In other words this song reminds me of everything I hate about Kharmacode.

Sorry dude, fantastic voice/sub par song writing and direction make this song about a 5 out of 10 for me. Not me being a dick, me commenting on a song. I like female fronted Goth Metal, I love it but this just doesn't have it.

It sounds nothing like Flowing Tears or To/Die/For either.

I think Amy Lee has a better voice than most female fronted metal bands I've heard but their songs are substanceless pop material.

Well, it sounds nothing like Karmacode and it sounds like a goth metal song, not very different from anything many other bands play. I think the album is awesome. I seriously do.

Evanescence and Flowing Tears are very similar. To/Die/For have a lot of musical similarities.

We are just going to have to disagree then. I am not being negative, her voice is fantastic and I own fallen but her band just can't write a song that is cohesive and decide what they want to be 1. Serious Goth/rock Metal or 2. Pop Rock Goth Metal (see examples by Entwine, Lacrimas Profundre (new), To/Die/For, For my Pain, etc). They like go in limbo between that and mainstream new metal and it hurts them. Well doesn't hurt them, this will be a huge hit, but just not for me.

I honestly don't envision this being a big hit album.

I seriously dont think this band is going to release an album which is more darker and less radio friendly, when they owe everything to commercial radio and MTV.
You may say it feels more darker, but they wont change their sound too much so that commercial radio stations wont play it. They will still be radio friendly as ever....afterall thats how they got to be successful in the first place, why turn their back on it.....

Yeah because like I said they can't decide what they want to do and it shows in the songs. If I were them I would opt for the easy way out and make another fallen. Now they are in that no mans land with Anathema and others, except...Anathema know how to write a song and thus still get the most adventorous of us and their old fans, Evanecence will just tank and that is too bad, because seroius Ms Lee has one hell of a voice.

I'm basing my opinion on the actual album, dude. I've heard it. I'm not just making an assumption.

Maybe they wanted to be all those things, dude? Is that such a strange thing? Do you know of no other band that incorporates many styles? I think you're wrong in that assumption, but regardless, if you were right it doesn't mean anything.

You must also remember that Ben Moody was the principle songwriter in the band, so either Amy Lee has stepped up and written all the songs—she does write songs—or other people have helped. Considering Rocky is in a bunch of other really heavy bands (Soul Embraced, etc.) then maybe he had a hand in the songwriting. These songs don't sound like they were penned by outside songwriting teams, they don't have that style to them.

We'll see, though. You should listen to the album fully before making a final judgement. It's a damn good album.

Next time post a better song that might actually interest me to buy it. If I say it for like 9.99 in Target I might grab it. My buying has really slowed down. I really only want the new Blind Guardian and Maiden these days anyways. I even stopped buying obscure BM.

Yeah well whoever is writing songs for the band wether on Fallen or whatever needs to do a better job.

Eyesore: very interesting song, the guitar sound is much more varied and sounds better than on Fallen. Is the album mostly like that ?

There's a lot of that, but there also a good amount of orchestration and piano. There's a bit more of the electronic looped beats here, too. It's a much more mature album. Here's two more:

SWEET SACRIFICE
LITHIUM

"Lithium" flat out kicks ass!

Lithium was so, so....
Sweet Sacrafice was better...
so far the 4 songs I heard nothing sounds really killer, but it seems to be on track for a 7/10 rating

Pffft!

It all depends on what you're looking for. This isn't European goth metal, you know? Similarities exist, some stronger than others, but this is still an American version.

I'm simply giving my opinion on what I heard. I'm giving it a fair assessment and your blowing me off on the basis that you think I was expecting European Goth, which couldn't be more wrong.

I like a variety of different styles of music and I like to think of myself as an open minded person. The "Sarah McLachlan" meets Heavy Rock that is blatantly displayed here on those tunes is just not doing anything for me. And of all the 4 songs that I heard from this album they tend to follow the exact same pathern which is start slow + piano then hit with guitars.

Who is blowing you off? I said it all depends on what you're looking for! What came after is just reiteration of the recent theme of this conversation.

Good call. I do sense a lot of Fumbling Toward Ecstasy-era Sarah Mclachlan here. Of course, that's an awesome album! And "Sweet Sacrifice" and "Lithium" don't follow the pattern of starting slow and then kicking in with heavy guitars. "Sweet Sacrifice" is heavy from the beginning and "Lithium" is slow the whole song, only adding guitars to the chorus and such, but even then it's still a very mellow tune.

It was, in fact, but only in a joking manner because our opinions differ. That's why I used the smiley. :)
