Sarah McLaughlan meets heavy rock actually sounds pretty good! Thanks, Ken, I'll give Those Tracks You Uploaded a listen. Didya hear that duet she did with the Seether guy? Broken, I think it was called...

Ken, I will give you that Lithium kicks Maximum ass. This is how they should sound as a band and fuck her voice annihiliates. To bad all the songs aren't this good.

Just downloaded and listened....

Just a slight improvement over Fallen, but nothing that will make me go out and buy it....or really keep most of the mp3's for that matter.

Her voice annoys me at times, like she's just trying to hard and it comes off over the top. I think at least 3-4 songs will be heard on commercial radio, which also annoys me.

If i had a choice, i'd much rather stick to the euro goth rock/metal bands, who kills this band in a heartbeat.

Just my opinions....

Yeah, I heard that song, but it was simply a move by Seether to try and capitalize off of Evanescence's name. That song was on a previous album without female vocals. The re-recorded it with her.

It worked, too. It was a big hit.

I listened to the album, and like it a lot. Agreed that it's not that commercial, and it is better than Fallen. I'll buy this when it comes out.

Sorry to sorta necrobump, but just dled this album and wanted to comment after giving it a few spins...

I do enjoy this album, a lot more than Fallen. Its about a bit under Orgin in my opinion atm, mostly because a few of the songs do have that sort of radio friendly sound.

You have to go into listening to this album as a Goth Rock album, and as Eyesore said, an American one. But for a band that got their big break on MTV, almost every song but the single has very gothic elements in them. Outside of a few repetitive chunky riffs to add a heaviness to the songs, there's really very little radio friendliness on this album.

The songs Eyesore uploaded are good, I'd also recommend "Like You" as a beautful ballad where Lee's vocals really soar and excell. Its my favourite song on the album so far, and I find myself going back and listening to it as I would "Bittersweet" from Within Temptation or "Trois vierges" from Epica.

Another song on the album, "Lose Control" has a very The Gathering-ish feel to it, with a slightly bombastic beat in the background of the verses that immediately brought to mind "How to Measure a Planet," a analogy I wasn't expecting to ever hear from them.

Even a lot of the "crunchy" songs have really nice symphonic elements; and Lee's voice IMO is superb. I think a lot of people bash on Evanescense because of their success, especially coming from MTV, and their fan base amongst the angsty preteen female crowd, and I was anxious approaching this album because I thought it was going to be a ton of radio songs and they were simply going to sell out even more. But I was pleaseantly suprised to be wrong, there's a lot of gothic elements on this album and if anyone's a fan of Flowing Tears or even something like Within Temptation, you probably can find something you enjoy in this album, if you can put aside their mainstream popularity for a bit.

Evanesence is only good for people who never heard of better bands. I saw all there new songs on VH1 rocks (closest thing to metal here) and they are really bad. Strictly MTV rock.

Seriously, better than fallen? I heard that album when I wasn't into metal and I liked it and now I can sort of listen to Bring Me To Life. Do you think its worth hearing the other songs?

From Fallen or TOD? If you can listen to modern rock without ripping your face off, I'd definately say give TOD a try.

"TOD" falls very short of being even half as good as "Fallen" was. The guitar work is dreadful, it's musically devoid of anything that made "Fallen" great, and her lyrics are just a gigantic whine session. Plus after watching Amy Lee perform at Donnington this year, you know she's a Protools baby. She hacked and destroyed everything thing she was attempting to sing (if you can call it that). She sounded terrible. If you don't believe me go to Youtube, do a search for Evanescence Donnington. Be warned...you will cringe at what you hear.

What really amazes me is that after looking at the Donnington lineup this year, there were tons of talented bands that could have been the last to play before Iron Maiden. Why would you give Evanescence the distinction of bringing Maiden onstage?

Anyway, imo "Fallen" = 8.5

"The Open Door" = 2.5

Well, you're being a bit hard on her on the basis of the Download performance. According to the comments on YouTube she had hay fever at the time, and her voice seemed pretty good to me, considering a lot of bands go to shit when playing live (Dragonforce, for eg). Anyways, she gets my thumbs up for http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTA5AUn2 ... ed&search= - not enough feisty women in metal. Or crappy goth-rock-pop, if you prefer.

On TOD's subject, I see that METALLY it might be inferior, but musically it's better. Broadened songwriting doesn't mean they've gone shit.

Apparently a new album called Justice leaked.

By what I've heard, I completely agree. Lithium is a shit song, and then when I heard Sweet Sacrifice, which I heard was the album highlight, I lost any interest in bothering to here any more. And don't get me started on Call Me When You're Sober...

Well, I'd be a bit excited if I was opening for Maiden, too. I know you're an expert on drunk women ( :P  ) but I've seen a few myself.
