There's more fun in Nirvana than you know (or remember).

Come on now, Music Bank clearly shows that all the songs that got cut from the album dirt were all the hard rock songs that did make it on the facelift album. The dark and brooding mood 100% of the time was not the band that got started in the late 80's and released facelift. Facelift was fun and made fun of the rock n roll lifestyle. Once rock was no fun anymore thanks to Nirvana's pissy party, they got serious.

your talking about "fear the voices" and "lying season" they are both good songs but didnt really fit with the rest of the album.

lifted from wiki.

"Fear the Voices" is an outtake from the Dirt album, recorded in 1991. In the liner notes of 1999's Music Bank box set collection, guitarist Jerry Cantrell said of the song:

Another cool song from that demo for the Crow movie. Thinking about it now, that was a fruitful tape! We got "Would?" for the movie, part of Sap and we got started on the Dirt, so the tune itself was a good song, but we were just turning to the height of our blackness.[1]

facelift was a little more fun and upbeat because jerry wrote most of the lyrics. dirt saw layne getting more and more involved in the lyric process. the self titled was almost entirely written by layne with the exception of like 4 songs. jerry cantrell focused more on relationships and friendships. layne focused more on the addiction and depression that comes along with it.

as far as i know jerry cantrell was a drinker and he did alot of coke where layne was a heroin addict. those are two major differences in personality. a person who gets hooked on coke is a different kind of person than a person who gets hooked on heroin. and it shows in their lyrics.

i understand the point you are trying to make but i dont think it stands for aic. they got darker because layne got more involved with lyric writing and jerry changed his sound to suit the lyrics thats why dirt is so much different than facelift. and why the self titled is so much different that dirt.

All lyrics and music written by Jerry Cantrell, except where noted.

Alter Bridge... not exactly the same vintage as the nu-metal/post-grunge movement but definitely that style and pretty damn good.

Also, bands like Antimatter and Twelve Foot Ninja have a real nu-metal-ish feel to them without pandering to say, Fred Durst levels.

Creed side-project? wtf.

True, but I don't think that equals them being good. But I have heard praise for them in some circles.

Yeah I know, I know, I was super skeptical at first with them being basically a reincarnation of Creed minus the singer, but they've got a fair few rocking good tunes.

Also, judge for yourself:
