After checking a sample from their previous album, I have to say that you are right. Nothing special.

Getting rather sneaky, this ''An answer to metalcore! lol" marketing, no?

I agree with Al's review and I was brutally disappointed with this CD. I saw them get compared to Neurosis somewhere or other on the internets.. they must have meant their first album :P

I completely disagree with this review. First, calling it Atmospheric Metalcore is nowhere near accurate. Atmospheric, yes, but this is not metalcore in the least. This band is like Acid Bath meets Pink Floyd.

I have deleted the album from my PC since I plan to buy it tomorrow, so I'll give my full opinion then. The CD will feature a 20 minute track on a bonus CD, which I haven't heard yet. I do feel that this band's slower material is better than the heavier stuff, but that doesn't change my opinion that this a damn good band, and this CD is very, very good.

From Prisons:
IT ALL DIES TODAY

From Ashes To Embers:
FEAR

From the Disintergrate EP:
HOPELESS (a slower song)

I found the vocal style as soon as it reached the chorus / heavier parts were archetypal metalcore as were the chunky repetitive riffs in said parts. I mean remove the more slow tempo / droning parts and there isn't a whole lot of difference between this and a hundred other US metalcore acts. I don't use metalcore as a derogatory term as I actually like quite a bit of it, It's just what this struck me as. As I've said before I don't like pigeonholing things but that was the closest I could get to a genre label.

But anyway I'll agree to disagree matey. If you like the band good for you. To the others check out Eyesores links to the mp3's. (you've gotta tell me how to do that mate, I tried it and found myself in HTML hell) and make your own minds up.

And dee, I saw the Neurosis comparison as well, on their official website and it made me want to punch the screen. Naughty, naughty publicity people.

Well, the Nuerosis comparison is clearly wrong. I think the resemble Acid Bath quite a bit, what style would you call Acid Bath? Atmospheric harcore doom? Haha. I wish I could remember exactly what it says, but there is a CD in a shop down the road and the sticker on it says something like: FOR FANS OF MISFITS, TOOL, CANNIBAL CORPSE AND ENYA! Hahaha. It lists like 4 bands that are so completely different from each other it's hilarious, so generally I try and avoid comparisons that other people suggest. I have full confidence in my comparisons.

I don't know, I know this band isn't the most accessible, but when I heard "Anyone" and "Hopeless" from their EP I was hooked.

For people wondering who the hell Acid Bath are, they're a kickass sludge band, now spilt up after their bassist got run over.

Toubabo Koomi

Paegan Love Song

Ignore this crappy metalcore and go check them out!

I will accuse anyone who calls Eyes Of Fire metalcore of not listening to it. Sorry. They're NOTHING like metalcore. If you're going mention Acid Bath then you'd better call them metalcore, too.

Fine, atmospheric hardcore. Happy? There are much better bands in this vein, from Neurosis to October File. Definately more metalcore than Acid Bath are.

No. You haven't listened to this band. They're not metalcore, not even close. Eyes Of Fire are an excellent band!

Metalcore's a broad term. Just because As I Lay Dying make metalcore in one style doesn't mean that other sorts can't exist.

And I have listened, and they're boring. They try to be atmospheric, and don't pull it off at all.

Edit: and they're from OC, and they have 'core haircuts. You can't win on this one, mate.

this is definetly not sludge, either of the Grief or NOLA variety, so hardcore/metalcore probably is the right term.. obviously we're not comparing these guys to KSE or whoever

Metalcore is NOT a broad term. It's used by people who're ignorant, just like the people who label a million different bands "nu-metal." I've already won this argument by way of the simple fact that you're talking fiction.

this thread is getting pretty intellectual.

Eyes of Fire are simply too clean to be sludge though, so if they're not sludge and they're not xcore I don't know where that leaves them. perhaps "shit"
