oh and the queen, i've always had this question:

where does the money for the royal family come from, taxes or the family's businesses?

but you see, the queen attracts international attention to england/uk, and you aren't that cash strapped anyway. on the other hand, portugal has growing unnemployment, failing education programmes, a social-security system that can go bankrupt in the next few decades... and the government still likes to burn money like that, on ceremonies and cars and "jobs for the boys" and for some reason picks up the tab on things like private schools for the minister's kids, drivers, phone bills.... WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THEM?!

Tax. If it wasn't for the tourism income for the country (let's face it, people don't come here for the weather), she and her inbred family would've been butchered in the streets by now.

As for the rest, yes, it's annoying. Israel's government is corrupt as fuck too, little that can be done. Apart from voting the Commies in...

hmm there is something pissing me off today, i mean i'm still a happy panda but i could be happier.

today the new president Cavaco Silva takes charge. he's cool and all, but the whole pomp surrounding the event was rediculous. my college is right next to the parliament, and it was absolutely awful. what seemed to be half of portugal's police and military force were there, blocking the surrounding roads for cars and shit.

it was a crock of shit, with representatives from every country, in their fancy mercedes (class S and E, of course) and bmw's and volvos and audis, all with the diplomatic number plate (nice to see how they spend TAXPAYER'S MONEY responsibly) and drivers going there to see the new president "take charge". why can't he just go and sit in his office and do his fucking job? it's not like he has any real power anyway (that would be the prime minister). total bullshit. i don't understand all these STUPID FUCKING CEREMONIES.

this crap was probably followed by some long speech where they just say nothing significant for half an hour and everybody applauds (the sound of the president's yes man clapping probably wakes them up).

goddamn ceremonies. just sit in your office and do your fucking job.

You should have been at the front with your friends, throwing potatoes and wolf-whistling.

When Michael Howard came to my college last year someone got arrested and taken into custody just for yelling the "C" word at him... And he was just opposition leader! Fuck knows what would happen to you if you chucked vegetables as Mr Blair.

Tessa Jowell got an egg, no? And I remember someone getting fined £80 for swearing in front of a policeman, which made me laugh. That can't happen very often, can it?

That case eventually got thrown out, oh fellow Metro reader.

Also, great stuff Flingon.

Man, I'm saving that picture! 8)

Not quite how I imagined the worry-cat: He's really more one of the freaky hairless dudes, but appropriate nonetheless. The bastard... :x

FUCKING PIECES OF SHIT!

my sister was mugged on her way back home from school (a 5 minute walk)!! 6 PEOPLE, 5 girls and one guy, ganged up on her and held her with a knife, demanding her phone and money. they searched her coat and didn't find the phone (apparently "inside pockets" are new to them), and after 2 men started walking their way they ran off. low-life cowardly thieving SCUM!!

all 6 of them were gypsies. i know there are honest gypsies and i try not to stereotype, but these fucking gypsies bring it on themselves. then they get surprised at racist reactions.

That sounds like a total crapfest, Azrael.

What's the deal with Portugal? Is crime really awful there or has your family just been very unlucky?

she's 16 (17 in may), and she's ok, she was just scared.

as for the shitfest, it's because of where we live. Lumiar is a good neighbourhood and the apartments here are expensive (not the fanciest but still expensive). thing is it's the last area before the ghetto-like areas of Musgueira and the Galinheiras.

i'm 19 and i've lived here all my life and go outside every day, and i've only been mugged 3 times (and all they ever got from me was my headphones in the lift :P).

the fact that this happened twice within a week is a coincidince.
