I'll believe it when i see it.

I dont want to sound stupid here, but i hear the term gypsy's now and then, but am not entirely sure what race of people they are. Where they live, what they do, who they are, etc, etc.
In live in Australia, so our country do not have any gypsy people that i know of living here. If there is, it is a very very tiny population

They are Romany travelling people. So the race is originally from Romania, but they are nomadic and live all over the place.

Gypsies, right? Well, lemme tell you something about gypsies. The way it is, they've heard people call a bad deal a 'dirty gyp' all their lives, they've been run out of more cities and towns than you can spell the name of, Hitler wanted to exterminate every last one...

The way it is, they've been hated for so long that they became exactly what people hated about them.

So all of you gypsy-haters can go fuck fenceholes filled with splinters. It's the same shit as calling all black people 'worthless lying stealing niggers' except with the fact that it probably won't result in your expulsion from polite society if you hate the gypsies.

Hate the people who did this to you, not their race.

Did god create us or did we create him, bird out of the egg or egg out of the bird, did society make gypsies this way or were they this way so society expelled them ?

Who knows ? All I know is 9 out of 10 criminals (mostly thieves) are gypsies around my town. They might be stealing because nobody would give them a job or they might be made into thieves at birth so nobody gives them a job. Who knows really...

Well, here in Spain we have gypsies too... and the problem is not in the race, is in the way of live... nomadic people (and here, the nomadic people are gypsies) that have no home, no works, and go where the wind blows... usually cause problems, and steal is part of their way of life. Gypsies that stands in a place, in a city or town, and stand for one or two generations... they are gypsies, but they are just like the rest of people.

I refuse to believe that one race is naturally inclined towards thievery from birth...

Well, come here to Spain, to Barcelona, and I can show you a lot of honest gypsies. And you'll see it.

Yeah, I refuse that too but seeing a 5 year old boy taking my wallet without me not noticing and then running away like an olympic sprinter makes me wonder.

If I ever see a gypsy who has established a normal life, has an accepted place in society I will really go and congratulate them because I do think that it can be done, it just that most of them aren't trying.

Me too... cause is not a racial trait, is a cultural trait. I can accept that a culture is educationally inclined towards thievery...

Surely. There's no such thing as a thieving gene that they have and that's not what I meant, it would be stupid to say so. "Made into thieves at birth" means they are born to be thieves because their environment is forcing them to be that way.

Yeah, I can agree with that.... I think DM means that the evironment they are born into is at least in part created by the way mainstream society regards them.

i didn't say all gypsies were low-life thieving pieces of shit, i said the 6 "people", who were also gypsies, that mugged my sister are low-life thieving pieces of shit.

i didn't say that it's in their blood to steal, but most races have their own culture, and their culture doesn't include much respect to other people here in portugal. it's a fact that most gypsies collect government aid but don't pay taxes, steal and sell stolen shit. not all of them, mind you, but most of them nonetheless.

there's a reason that negative feelings are stronger towards them than other races.

i admit it, when i'm outside if i see gypsies i avoid them. if they don't like it they can go complain to the fuckers who gave them a bad reputation (and that would be other gypsies in most cases).

EDIT - how should i put this?? i don't mind gypsies, but given the habits of a good lot of them they can't complain about racism and shit. they just can't. they bring it on themselves.

i don't think the "people" that mugged my sister did it as a reaction towards a society that despises them, they didn't come up to her and say "we'll take your wallet because no one understands us".

Gypsies are originally from India. They don't even use the word romani themselves.

My 2 cents on the whole "are gypsies thieving bastards?" issue: Although i actually know some honest gypsies, i have to admit that for the most part, they are. But it's a cultural thing, not a genetical thing.

No, of course not. Its the upbringing. And sadly, the gypo upbringing often seems to involve the ``not gypsy = fair game`` point of view.

We've got a fuckload of gypsies here in Södertälje. I've met a very large number of them on the street and such, and not a single one has been a decent person.

I once got hit by a car driven by Gypsies, they proceded to go out and claim that I'd broken thier car and wanted money, seriously, wtf?
