though, it's true about the diving and the whining. the diving was probably Mourinho's influence from his days in FC Porto.

Yes, and besides Man Utd has been the richest club for so many years but still they went down, and Real Madrid too. It's all about Mourinho.

Indeed, but when United were the richest club they built a great team around a core of players that had been at the club all their playing lives (Beckham, Scholes, Neville, Giggs etc). Chelsea have done nothing but throw money at players and a manager. That's why their time at the top will not be long, and it's why the team they've built couldn't compete with the best Arsenal or United teams of recent years. The reason they're dominant right now is because Arsenal have fallen apart, and United have lost their best players.

Arsenal are the future of English football. A solid core of young players that are only going to get better and better.

how many Arsenal players were "born and bred" there? they may be young, but most of them aren't english or trained at Arsenal.

No, but they've all arrived there earlier in their career, and hopefully will remain.

It's different from United, where all their players came up through their own youth system. But still it's a young team that will hopefully remain together and progress.

Arsenal does have a lot of good young players but now that Henry is going I don't think Arsenal will be able to fill his position and will probably be worse next year without him. The future seems bright though.

Yep. For England the World Cup is over before it has begun. Now our first choice striking partnership is Peter Crouch and what's-his-name Bent.

what about Darius Vassel? he's decent..

Portugal's has a grand total of 0 (zero) really good strikers, didn't stop us from doing fairly well. out star-studded midfield usually solves the problem.

and Rooney, if i'm not mistaken, will only be out 6 weeks, isn't that just enough to still be able to make the world cup?

It'll be touch and go, but he should be back by the first knock out round if all goes according to plan- maybe even sooner. The problem will be his lack of fitness and match practice. England and Portugal play in different ways, I think. We are totally reliant on having at least one powerful and dangerous striker.

Vassell hasn't played for England since he missed that penalty in Euro 2004, I don't think. I don't know what's happend to him- he just dropped right off the radar. But he was never a world class player- which Rooney and Owen both are.

Fuck Chelsea. Anyone could win the league with that amount of money behind them.

As a Blackburn fan, it is my duty to tell you that is nonsense. Wouldn't Chelsea have won the title under Ranieri when he spent £100m in his final season?

You're a Blackburn fan?

I admit I was guilty of exaggerating. My retort is to dismiss Ranieri as a big lame-o :P .

The reason Chelsea have the success they do is because some corrupt oligarch pointed at them and said "I want that one". So then he just threw money at them until they eventually started to function well.

At least when Manchester United ruled the world they made all their money as a result of their success, not as the prerequisite to it.

Indeed. 8) Rangers+Rovers = winning combination. Although the two never seem to have a simultaneously succesful season. :?
