You did what?! I mean, people dressed as monkeys is all very well, but aren't the later ones just awful?

Probably, but I bought them anyway 8)

And there are no people dressed as monkeys. There are Chimps, Gorillas and Orangutans :P

I apologise to all MONKEYS that I offended with my harsh statement.

Anyway, I'd have thought someone with your politics would veto Charlton Heston on principle, due to the NRA... :)

 Gun nuts>Nazis, and we both listen to NSBM occasionally

Actually I felt kind of sorry for Heston when Michael Moore was hounding him in BfC. He struck me as being little more than a pretty feeble old guy with an inappropriate gun fetish, and Moore seemed like a bully who was trying to blame him personally for a dead child. Anyway, second hand sources tell me he was a big advocate for the US civil rights movement back in the day. Plus, the politics of the film itself are pretty intelligent and very humanist (unless I've totally misinterpreted it).

EDIT: Interesting enough http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlton_h ... al_beliefs

Haha, true.

And I'm glad the closest thing we have over here is the Campaign For Real Ale! Old people can still be dangerous... :o

Edit: Well. But then I see:

Hmm, a poorly constructed sentence. (From Wikipedia? Never!) It makes it seem like he thinks racial segregation helps the cause of Communism worldwide...

Chuck Heston may be something of a lunatic, but shit if I wouldn't follow him to the very gates of Hell. He had such a commanding screen presence without even being a good actor.

Anyway, in response to the title of this topic, I feel uncomfortable and weird.

*Inhale* (prepare for some serious soap opera shit right here folks).

So last night I was at a Syth gig in a Glasgow rock pub with two of my friends. Then a girl who is friends with one of my friend's little sister comes over to sit with us. She's got a repuatation for being insanely needy and obsessed with looking her best, but I'd never spoke to her before then.

So then, the night's proceeding, and I'm seeing everyone's point about the chick needing lots of approval, but I'm still getting on well with her. Things got a little `personal` and I ended up with her number.

But, all night long I'd been getting warning signals from my friend who has known this girl since she was a kid not to proceed. And while I know I'm within my rights to tell him to fuck off and mind his own business, it still wouldn't feel right at all (and I know I'd probably be acting the same in his situation).

Then you bring in the fact that this girl is only 18 and I'm 23 and things take an even bigger turn for the worst. I mean, on the basis of one evenings conversation she seems great, but should I be looking to continue something with a girl 5 years younger than me that might only have been happy getting the attention?

I really suck at this kind of thing. [/catharsis]

Go for it T-rex, what's the worst that can happen? These stuff get worse the more you think about them, so jump in if there's a chance. If you realize she's an attention whore indeed, just tell her to fuck off, no big deal.

Tread with extreme caution. 18 is very young, and if she's a few crisps short of a packet as she sounds... :|

Ever the voice of reason, Zad. I'm not exactly looking for advice here, I just wanted to get it off my e-chest and if something profound comes up I may act on it.

To be honest I'm more worried about alienating one or more of my friends than anything else.

Go for it, T-Rex.

18 is old enough. Don't forget girls mature emotionally faster than boys as well. My sister started seeing her boyfriend when she was 15 and he was 19, and they were together for nearly 4 years. One of my best friends (22) has been seeing a 17 year old for a long time now (since she was 16). I (21) was involved with a 17 (now 18 ) year old for several months, and I'm certain it would have been much, much longer had she not lived in Germany :x

Maybe none of this is relevant to you, but my point is that the age difference you speak of should not be a barrier unless she is immature for her age.

And if she is, well just repeat to yourself what Eisenfaust said. You're 23 now, and you're unlikely to get many more chances with someone of that age range... Go go go!

Your sister was with him until she was 19? Maybe she matured enough to realise her mistake! All very well saying that girls mature quicker.

I don't know. Although there's a good 9 year age gap between my parents, something about them in general just don't sound right. Ultimately, you can't generalise about something like this. You're intelligent enough to make your own mind up, Craig, but remember that if he's a real friend he wouldn't be warning you for nothing.

Ah, she's 18 now so I may have made a numerical mistake. Maybe she was 14 when they started... Can't remember.

Actually they broke up because she went to university, and they remain close "friends" to this day. So yes, it is perfectly possible to have a sensible relationship between late teens and early twentysomethings :)

Edit: Oh yes, 13 years between my parents! I already had a half sister in her 20s when I was born.

I don't know, something about a 19 year-old with a 14 year-old just sounds...wrong.

Aah, I can't remember whether it was 14 or 15... but it was definitely before 16.

Yeah, many of us thought it was not great at the time, but my parents trusted them both and time proved them to be right to do so.

I think the bottom line for me is that age differences like this are not a barrier so long as the older male is not being predatory, and is not going to fuck with her head.

As I said, it depends. Good for them if they can make it work, and you're right, a lot does rest on the older male...

the older you are the less significant an age gap seems (Zad).

Rex go for it, have some fun then tell her to fuck off.

Well, obviously an 80 year old won't be as worried as the 20 year old he's fucking!

And sure, why not screw her up emotionally for the rest of her life. :o
