I'd love to know what Materazzi said to make him so angry, because surely Zidane didn't do what he did just because Materazzi grabbed him moments earlier.

Sure that he didn't it just for the grab. He was leaving, Materazzi said something to him, and he turned back just to give him that butt. Not expert in italian insults, but sure that was a fuckin hard one.

Now the question is... Italian justice will condemn their heroes to descend? I bet than no.

Great match from both teams, good to see that for once penalties didn't mean our doom (serioualy, I was at a pub and when penalties started there were people walking outside because they didn't wanto to see).

I really didn't see that coming from Zidane, a sad way to end such a brilliant career.

A newspaper I read said that Materazzi grabbed Zidane by his shirt and said to him, twice, that his sister is a hooker, then he said another insulting word to him. The german Newspaper Bild says Materazzi called Zidane "arab terrorist", which the algerian took as a big insult. Whatever the truth, Materazzi clearly provoked Zidane, and under the pressure, the high stake of the match, the fatigue and all else, he couldn't control himself and he snaped. Ugly incident either way.

However, there is a good part: we can now play a new game: "Headkick Materazzi"

anyway, the "Calciocaos" process draws to a close:
- Juventus (with an additional 30 point deduction, if i'm not mistaken they'll start next season with -30 points), Lazio and Fiorentina were relagated to Serie B
- AC Milan lost 15 points

tough shit! i think relegation will probably backfire in the sense that the Serie A will lose international appeal, though.

now that the major clubs were relegated, i sense a major shopping spree by the english, spanish and german giants (and Inter Milan too ).

Kathy - you were saying Rui Costa is past his prime? 12 years at the highest level in Italy (with Fiorentina and AC Milan), playling alongside the likes of Sheva, Maldini and Batistuta have only made him a better player. i recommend you watch Benfica game or two this season ;)
