Graphic, typical David Cronenburg stuff. Maybe 7 or 8 on screen Deaths, some f*cked up off screen ones and general violance. It is a good movie and Marie Bello is incrediably hot and a good actress.

I saw Silence of the Lambs last night. Really good...kind of weird, too.

The Wicker Man - 8.5/10 - Quite creepy and fuckin' weird. I thought paganism was like what the black metallers lived  , not this crazy for-fruit-sacrificing, wearing animal masks stuff.

Christopher Lee or Nic Cage?

The Christopher Lee one. Theres another version?

Yeah, there's a remake on the way (O RLY? ), starring Cage.

*weeps for humanity*

If you told me the remake was being made, i would know it would be terrible. The only way i could think it was gonna be worse is if you told me Nic Cage would be in it!

Fuck you hollywood! Leave good movies from the past alone!

I bet all the dirty stuff and stuff about paganism is dropped, and the bit about the fool who was king for a day too. This will probably be in favour of some kind of unexplained supernatural bullshit. (Which the first movie need to be scary. It relied on human insanity and the effect of religion on man, and a good old mystery to do that. No cheap shocks in the original)

From the trailer it looks like some standard lamefest "child in peril" rescue adventure bullshit. I guess a modern mainstream audience is just not capable of dealing with a plot like that of the original.

It wouldn't surprise me if Nic Cage rescues the girl and escapes off into the sunset at the end.

Thats what i mean. When you found out the pagans had been controlling all whatshisnames actions, and set him up symbolically to be the fool character in the may day celebrations, and be the sacrifice, its chilling. And not cos of a cheap scare. Because the idea is scary as fuck.

I mean, in the original the desk contained a beetle on a string running around a nail. Now it features a crow jumping out in a cheap surprise scare

Exactly. The fear in the first one built and built because his actions were becoming increasingly frustrating and the islanders motives seemed to becoming increasingly sinister as time went on. And that moment of catharsis, that monolithic image and insant of realisation of what was going to happen - fucking terrifying. What would you do? What could you do? The feeling of helplessness is infintely scarier than hallucinatory images of women covered in bees or whatever.

Yeah, it's a film about chilling ideas, not puny jump scenes.

I don't know if I shall see it or not. Part of me wants to go for scoffing purposes, but part of me worries that it would be bad for my blood pressure

I find the first film very ambiguous as well, which is to its credit.

I mean, is it a film about the foolishness of Christianity? ie, the blinkered Christian thinks he can inflict his beliefs on the islanders, and is punished for his naivety.

Or is the film making him into a martyr? He sticks to his beliefs until the very end, and as such even though he suffers, he can claim the moral high ground?

Interesting stuff. I expect to see a development of these themes in the remake

Hee hee

I bet all the intelligent parts of the film are cut out. So he wont be religious and the islanders wont be pagans. And all the sex and stuff will prolly be cut out, especially the stuff with the kids, and the freaky masks will look so 'polished' they will lose the absolutely creepy effect they had in the first one.

Waiting...

it's pretty funny and similar to the Clerks movies in many ways.
Ryan Reynolds is hilarious, and perfect for this type of role.
His sarcastic tone delivery is top notch.

I wanted to punch my tv after seeing that shit.

As for Nic Cage;

Bought The Ghostbusters 1 & 2 Box Set. I haven't seen them in years! I have to say, for it's time the special effects in the first one are really good. It's a vey well-done and entertaining movie, something Hollywood has no concept of anymore. I haven't gotten around to the 2nd one yet, but it has two episodes of The Real Ghostbusters cartoon in the special features. Ah, life is good.
