Cool, thanks.

As for As the Poets... I really enjoy their concisness as well. They have a new album coming out and from the samples on their site it sounds more indie rock than post rock.

I kind of liked the review, but it didn't tell me anything about the music...more explanation and that would be pretty cool.

I'm thinking about checking this out, anyways--what does it sound like?

like post rock (GSYBE are basically the definition of the genre), if you don't know what that is then all i can say is drawn out music with powerful crescendos.

Exactly, or classical music with rock instrumentation, textures rather than riffs, and soundscapes rather than songs. Knowing a bit of your taste, heatseeker, I don't think you'd like it a lot, but you can always have a try.

Check this review and the attached legal song to get an idea of post-rock.

Actually, my tastes are a little different than what I've been sharing around here...what I've been buying lately is heavy stuff, mostly I was actually lacking in the areas of death metal and thrash metal. My favorite band is Dream Theater, and another one of my favorites is Tool...I dunno, but the progressive-ness of them makes me think I might like this.

And that song was pretty cool (better when it got a little louder) but it seemed like it ended about four or five minutes too soon. Was it just a sample? Kind of weird to hear epic stuff like that but that short.

This "review" belongs in the poetry thread, as others have already pointed out. Having said that, this is quite a fantastic album. Predictably I prefer Lift Your skinny Fists like Antennas to Heaven which has sort of a nice Ennio Morricone-like feeling, methinks. Great stuff!

Is it just me or does a lot of post rock convey that epic, intense, apocalyptic feeling more so than any metal band?

Absolutely not. That epic and melancholic feeling is quite common in some genres of metal. A lot of Black Metal has a similar impact (on me at least).

The same emotional qualities are also to be found in a lot of neo-folk/folk noir/apocalyptic folk. Generally, the post-industrial underground has a lot to offer in this direction.

No, but it was indeed an extremely short post-rock song. If you like your post-rock heavy (metallish), try anything by Russian Circles or Pelican - The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw.

Ummm... don't you Gods have your own forum for that kind of thing? Considering the unfair amount of shit I get from certain sections, seems a bit strange to see a public bolloxing like this, completely off-topic, from two reviewers.

And it's very hard to describe music. If you read out the liner notes from Sunn O))) 's Grimm Robe Demos, that would sum up perfectly what they sounded like. I think this review's pretty good, considering some that have gone up on this site.

Describing post-rock to people who havent heard anything in the genre is hard!

That was some of the most pretentious nonsense I've ever read. Just because the music is deep, which Godspeed is, doesn't mean you have to get all artfaggish with the review. You gave me absolutely no reason why I should or should not buy this album, and you effectively wasted roughly 7 minutes of my time. I come here looking for advice on music, if I wanted to read poetry I'd go to a poetry site.

Consider the following:

A. This reviewer has been MIA for 8 months, no e-mails, no reviews, nothing.
B. This isn't a review.

So, no, it's not strange.

I dont really like this album, and i listened to it like three times.

I must say my opinion is changing fast, maybe cause i am listening to it in a more open minded way, or i am just in the right mood for this kind of music.

I am also getting into other post-rock like Explosions In The Sky and Set Fire to Flames.
