While i have to agree with you on some parts of the review, i honestly didnt found this album to be that bad, i actually liked it, but of course its nowhere near as good as War & Pain.

At least a 60, I'd say. Not an amazing record, but much better than a 30.

The album name sounds like something Radagast would say.

I'm not sure why it wasn't even mentioned that all of the guitar riffs were from Piggy's personal computer and were stickpiled before he died. The band pieced together this album as a tribute to him and used the riffs that he had left behind after he passed away. This is a very important detail that wasn't even touched on with this review. It must've been an incredibly emotional experience for these guys to pull this off and they deserve at least some credit for that. This is not one of Voivod's better efforts but it certainly is better than a 30..which by the way qualifies as a Crap Of The Month..

Well, someone—you, I think—mentioned that this album needed to be reviewed. I think he may have been trying to do that because it was requested.

Yeah....it was me that pointed out that it hadn't been reviewed yet. I just think he was a little harsh and unfair in his review....and missed some important details.

I can't disagree with that. It's MR circa 2001.

I've been reading a lot of good things about Voivod and not having listened to them ever, I decided a few weeks/months ago to download something so as to get to know them. The only thing I found was this album, Katorz, and as you can imagine it left me quite disappointed. Maybe I didn't give it enough time or "spins" but with every listen it became more annoying so after the 3rd time it was promptly deleted. Maybe all those details about "tribute" songs to their now-dead ex-member are important for their fans but for someone like me who doesn't know the band and who cares only about the music, I'd say that this album is around 60. Maybe I should try to listen to their older stuff and judge from there instead.

Quite possibly the worst review I have read on the site in ... a long time. If we are going to have a ton of reviews every week, can someone please serve as editor and keep this shit out of the mix.

The reviewer has not enjoyed an album by the band since Nothingface... why in the hell would you choose to review this album then???? I'm not saying I want a raving fan boy, but maybe someone who found something interesting from the band in the last 17 years would be a good idea.

There is no mention of how the album was constructed, as Marty mentions... nothing about the acoustic guitar that was the only time Piggy ever actually played one. Was any research (read: effort) put into this???

There is nothing in reference to the self-titled album before this and how the sound might have changed since then... or how it might be similar.

Hopefully, there is a probation/training for new reviewers. This was a joke and not worthy of the standards that MR has had over the past while.

/rant

As for the album itself: I liked that it felt raw compared with the self-titled (but that could be a turn off for some). It’s jazzy/groovy in sections… The drumming is great. … The album felt hypnotic to me. There are a few tracks that do feel slightly repetitive, but taken as a part of an album; I see it more like a motif than a lack of imagination.

Album: 75/100

Even without their progness, Voivod still make great HM. Deserves more than 30, but doubtless we'll get the stock response to the "Why review it if you don't like the band?" query...

Reviewing only what you like is a joke, dude! Reviewers that do that aren't reviewers.

This is a fantastic Progressive ROCK Album. I think the reviewer is way out of touch with what the band has been doing as of late, and expected something that the band hasn't done in a long time. If you look at it as a Metal album, you will be dissapointed. If you take it at face value as a Rock album, you will find a lot to like about it.

Not as bad as indicates the review. It's a mediocre album for Voivod standars, but not as bad as to get a 30... for me, it's in the 65-70 range.

But that's subjective, thus the 30/100 is perfectly fine.

Complain about Misha's loop review, not this one.

Nothing against your review, of course, just trying to derail the bitch train, you know? Haha.
