I checked this band out on MySpace and they're insane--quite literally, heh. I might have to get this.

This is a pretty cool album, I bought a promo copy for 4$ from a used store :P. I disagree with the "(the female singer, violinist, and pianist) are not used as novelties to “spice things up”" sentence, because the whole band is a novelty, but a really fun one. I'd give it around 75/100.

oke, I do have heart anything like this before, check out sleepytime gorrila museum (grand opening and closing) and you will find something that resembles to this. And the beginning of that song you didn't like is taken from i think it was Krzystof Penderecki (1933) : tkremos for the victims of hiroshima. When the bom would be dropped you'll get the same kind of chaotic violins, which almost make your ears bleed, (thanks to something named glissandos). So they have thought about it cause they use it to create a contrast with rest of the song. I think it's somethin they do brilliantly and not something that makes this album weaker.
well i hope you've learned something
But anyway this is one great release, you have to check it out.

Yeah, and Stolen Babies. But it's very good indeed, from what I've heard on myspace. I need this album. Although I wouldn't call it avant-garde, it's pretty experimental for metallish music, and very eclectic! Oh, and on myspace they mention John Zorn as one of their influences

I might have to reconsider my top 20 after hearing this. Very enthusiastic, energic and crazy. It feels like some jazzical free metal with top notch production as mentioned and I just love it.

I couldn't really think of another genre discription for it, other than Avante-garde. Didn't want to make up some crazy sub-sub-mini genre to try and pigenhole this thing, that would have just been embarrasing.

But yes, this is very intersting, very good. Hail Canada!!! :dio:

If you go by adjectives that are normally used in music (not metal in this case) you'd end up with Post-Modern Metal, or Eclectic Metal. But if you don't want to make up a new genre, it fits best in alternative metal. Making up new genres is gay, so if I were you'd, I'd go with that. I think the reviews says it all though, hands down.

Yeah I liked that song since it actually showed the band trying out an extended musical movement rather than changing every .4 seconds :P

May sound kinda wierd Misha, but although we haven't ever really conversed directly, i've read many of your posts and was very curious what you would think about this album.

My friend invited me to sit in when he recorded the drums on this album, but didn't take the opportunity... i'm sort of regretting it now

 .

A ridiculously awesome yet very different album.

Violins and cellos always get my love. That is the reason that this album will go with Virgin Black and Apocalyptica in my playlists.

Listened to the full album. Calling this band a novelty is an insult, noodles (especially considering a lot of the bands you like).

I think the album is fantastic. 93/100 after one listen.

Oh, sad thing you missed the recording! But recordings are usually sort of boring eh :P Hanging out with a band like this must be great though, I see and hear their musical taste is well develloped. I think you're mentioned unexpect before, and afer that I checked them out, I wasn't too impressed, but that was probably because I wasn't ready for music like this. I disliked the Dillinger Escape Plan at the time

I bought this CD a little bit ago and it's incredible. One of my all time favourite CDs that I own now. And I don't know why the reviewer hated Silence 010201070 or whatever it's called, thats one of my favourite tracks.... so epic.

I don't recall saying I "hated" it, I just thought it was a bit of filler. But no matter, I'm glad you liked it and supported the band. They deserve it! :dio:

I've been waiting for this since We, Invaders. I thought it was cool that they took Chromatic Chimera and turned it into something new. Though the rest of the album is probably more exceptional, it's a nice starting point.

This album is definitely a grand accomplishment, took a little longer to sink in than We, Invaders but I'm sure it will also last a lot longer.

Silence 011010701 is one of my favorites too! HURUMPH!

This album was especially hard to digest upon first listen, as everything sounded like one big psychotic blur. Now I can identify all the songs, and stuff. Is gud!
