Heh. I've inherited a crap stomach from my father. It makes too much acid, which can causes stomach ulcers if I'm not careful (so far, I've managed to avoid them, but I really have to balance my diet). Of course, cigarettes didn't help in this area at all, and so made the problem worse. It got slightly better when I quit, but I still can't eat toasted cheese sandwiches in the evening, or anything else greasy or overly rich.

Beer helps, drinking lots generally keeps it all from getting too much. It's not as bad as it sounds, but I get bad heartburn fairly frequently...

Stomach ulcers are caused by a bacterium. Those two Aussie guys who got the Nobel Prize proved it (and cured it).

I packed up the fags and the smokes [sic] on halloween last year. It sucks and after a few beers i crave like a mo-fo and I usually give in to the odd one or two ciggies.

I still class myself as an ex-smoker, though, as I don't smoke when I'm sober. Smoking's gonna be made illegal to do in public places like pubs, cafes and restaurants over here after April anyway. Best to get in early i thought. My advice, smoke when you're drunk as you don't fully recall the fix

Man, I'm dreading that. I've been smoking since I was 15 and I smoke a shitload when I'm drinking. It was fine when I went to New York (They already have the same ban in place) but I just think it'll be unworkable in the UK. Why? Because bouncers (door staff) in this country are, by and large, utter cunts, and present at most city centre bars after 8ish you'll go out for a cigarrette and I can almost guarantee that 50% of the time they won't let you back in.

In Italy that law was introduced 2 years ago. I think it saves the smokers and the people around them, some pubs were unbearable... I think overall it's better for everyone. But one thing they should do, lower the price of cigarettes, here 4 euros for a pack of Marlboro and every like 4 months they increase the price by 10 cents!! WTF?! Many of my poor friends can't afford it and so they switched on smoking handmade cigarettes. (which i hate)

I think in the summr its gonna be sound as, all the smokers will just be chilling in the beer gardens. But fuck smoking outside in the winter! Smoking kills, so does hyperthermia, fuck off!

I roll my own, it's way cheaper that way. When i go out drinking or to see gigs, i buy ready-made cigarettes, so i won't have to go through the trouble of rolling a cig every 20 minutes. Red Marlboro is my usual choice. Occasionally i'll go for North State.

All true, and I guess a reason why I quit three months ago. The beer induced smoking I do is bound to cease when the ban comes in, so great for my health, but like Bill Hicks said, 'I've quit smoking, but boy, do I miss 'em, yeah I miss 'em.'

Similar to you I started when I was 16 and have smoked for nearly half my life time, but it can be done... I did it cold turkey (fuck the patches, gum and inhalers, they're bollocks) will power is needed in all aspects anyway.

Oh, and I used to smoke 'Drum' rolling and 'Embassy No1' straight. Damn, I could use one of them right now... Best not to think about it!

Never say you are quitting smoking, it doesn't work like that.
The best way to quit is when you get a bad cold or a fever, and just stop thinking that cigarettes exist. You will eventually re-start smoking though.

Yea ive been through this several times. I was sick for pretty much all of last week, and I told myself I was gonna quit smoking. As soon as I started to feel better I craved a cigarettes. Its a shitty deal.
