Actually FINISHED A Game of Thrones today. I'll be moving on to either A Crown of Swords (Robert Jordan) or the next book in the series.

On a side note, I hate Dany (character in AGoT)...

Just started my second read on Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. Simply amazing, one of the best books I've ever read. Some people say it's boring as hell, I find it haunting, mystical, funny and longlasting. Best deal ever, 1006 pages for 3.5€. Amazing book.

I loved that book so much. I completely agree; with what people were saying, I was expecting a very slow read that I'd have to almost force myself to read everyday. Instead, after passing the 50 page mark, I couldn't put it down and finished it in two days. Loved the footnoting.

The first Wheel Of Time. So far, so LOTR, but bearable.

It picks up its stride in books 3-6 and becomes much less of a LOTR rip off. Then it crashes, burns, and destroys all life.

Hahaha. That's the only cover I could find. The book is from the mid-nineties. It's good. It's part of a light-hearted trilogy like Terry Brooks' Landover series—a dude from our world becomes a hero in an alternate fantasy universe. Good stuff.

Has anyone read Shike by Robert Shea by the way? I'd like to know what someone else thinks about it.

Now reading A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin...if this one's better than the first one (I've heard it is), it should definitely be awesome.

I would say the first one's better actually, though the second one is still very excellent. The third one (A Storm of Swords) just might be the best fantasy novel of all time.

All right, well I'm sure it won't disappoint...except for the purple cover. Terrible.

The Sword Of Shannara by Terry Brooks.
Jesus, if this isn't a total Tolkien ripoff, then I don't know what is. But still, it's good enough that you don't really mind, and you can enjoy it as a book in it's own right.

Shannara is a Tolkien ripoff without the good worldbuilding, writing or any measure of good characterization.
