Fighting for the Fatherland: the Story of the German Soldier from 1648 to the Present Day, by David Stone. Worthy of recommendation.

I bought this horror story anthology at a sale. So far it's pretty good.

^Breakfast of Champions is ridiculously funny. The beavers and asshole drawing bring me to tears from laughter every time I read it.

Currently reading Machiavelli's The Prince.

Just finished off these 2 books. Both were absolutely amazing, the second one was definately the better of the two however.

try as i might i can't get into Kurt Vonnegut's books :/

"Mark Twain & Huckleberry Finn" is cool so far but i guess the wit doesn't have the same impact now as it did back in the day..

It's written in a really child-like fashion with a bunch of pictures, so it's easy to read. It's funny yet depressing at the same time, though. Vonnegut is a total cynic.

Yeah, I've read The Sirens of Titan, and his cynicism came across in that - I like his theory that if an all powerful God did exist he wouldn't care about humans, and that humanity is just a communication device for aliens.

Dune has been officially sacked. I was enjoying it, but reading it far too slow to keep that up with the intervals I was having to leave between sessions.

Now onto The Shining. Read 100 of its 500 pages in only a couple of sittings. Thankfulling my readiing doesn't seem to be broken after all. Phew.

I'm reading this now; then I'll read Armageddon's Children by Terry Brooks; and then I'll sit down to fully immerse myself in my book.

Just about to finish 'Hard-boiled Wonderland and the End of the World' by Haruki Murakami. It's been an amazing read so far, his imagination is off the scale. I'm also reading 'Watchmen' for the umpteenth time as well as some Romantic poetry.

Do you mean the graphic novel "The Watchmen" by Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons ? That is seriously one of the best (if not THE best) graphic novel ever. Alan Moore is a true genius!
(Add Frank Miller and Neil Gaiman and you have my top 3!)

I finished Breakfast of Champions, it was pretty good. A lot of the stuff reminded me of something a standup comedian would say :P

Now I'm reading Sophie's World, a really simply written book about philosophy.

hm, my aunt is going to england and amsterdam for a week or so, i'm thinking of asking her for a few books.

George RR Martin - A Game of Thrones
what do you think of this? i'm not big on fantasy or meditations on the human condition, but i do love a good, fast-flowing plot. what do you think?
TH White - Once and Future King
anyone read this? what are your thoughts?

i was also thinking of asking her for some weed from the netherlands, but i doubt she'll get that
