hm, my aunt is going to england and amsterdam for a week or so, i'm thinking of asking her for a few books.

George RR Martin - A Game of Thrones
what do you think of this? i'm not big on fantasy or meditations on the human condition, but i do love a good, fast-flowing plot. what do you think?
TH White - Once and Future King
anyone read this? what are your thoughts?

i was also thinking of asking her for some weed from the netherlands, but i doubt she'll get that

I've read both of those books, and both are very good. However, The Once and Future King is pretty much fantasy with "meditations on the human condition", and not very fast-flowing at all, so I'm not sure how much you'd like it. A Game of Thrones is a great read, though.

A Connecticut Yankee at King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain. so far it's much cooler than Tom Sawyer, then again i suppose it's also aimed at a different public.

Man, I'd try that just because of the cool cover. How is it?

Its very good. This is the second Mieville book I've read; the first, Perdido Street Station, had an amazing (and I mean incredible) first two hundred pages and epilogue, and a mediocre four hundred pages in between. Mieville's prose is so very well done, and his descriptions and metaphors are delightfully horrible. His problem in Perdido was that after 200 pages of great set up, he introduced a stupid chase the monster plot that became the main focus of the book. The Scar does not look like it will suffer from the same weaknesses, and sofar, I reccomend it. Be aware, though, that Mieville is very depressing. There is very little happiness in these books.

A Short History of Progress by Ronald Wright

i think the world would be a smarted place if this book were mandatory reading. At least for the people in control of the world.

I'm currently reading this:

This is the book that bridges the Word & Void series with the Shannara series.

I'm reading a book by Tom Clancy at the moment, one of his Op-Center books.

Pillars Of The Earth is fantastic.

I have just started Bernard Cromwell's "Stonehenge." It is really good so far. I have heard this book compared to Pillars of the Earth, but I have never read that. Maybe I will next. Anyway it is a story of how maybe Stonehenge got built but it is a backdrop behind the story of a three brothers, a murderous warrior, a crippled sorcerer, and "the good one" battling over the leadership of the tribe.

Dude, if you don't declare this one of the greatest books you've ever read, you're a weirdo. Haha. Seriously, it's an awesome book.
