I'm reading "The Alchemist" by Paul Coehlo. It's a really good book, but I can't get past the feeling that it's just a psychological help book put in story form...still a really deep, good book though.

The Shining book is better than the film. I feel sorry for the main character more and the little boy is less annoying plus I don't need to look at Shelly Duvall's hideous mush.

Agreed. Though I'd say that since the book is more of a haunted house story (albeit a very well done one) and those elements are more overt, the movie is a bit more interesting in that the breakdown of Jack is almost all psychological.

High Cotton - Joe R Landsdale, seriously one of the best American writers around. Modern version of guys like Matheson and Bloch. Good stuff.

Not liking it so far. His style doesn't seem very 'realistic'. I don't think the ways he writes about his characters's emotions is very well done.

'Tis indeed. Also read the Return of The Bunny Suicides, Great Lies to Tell Small Kids and More Great Lies To Tell Small Kids.

okokokokok. I have a demand essay tomorrow on Macbeth. But I was given the questions so I can make an outline. BUT I am REALLY stuck for a third point.

okok here's the topic:

Demonstrate that as Shakespeare's Macbeth Progresses, Macbeth becomes less human while Lady Macbeth grows in humanity, ultimately resulting in a role reversal.

So, my points are obviously Guilt, Femininity/Masculinity and...?

help? anyone?

Sexuality? Morality (can be taken in a number of ways)? Hell, you could even work race into it.

Growing ambition's effect on morality?

And A Clockwork Orange is indeed a fantastic book, one of my favourites (great movie too). Writing the book in nadsat was completely genius. Hopefully you got the version with the good ending instead of the really dumb and edited in afterwards ending.

clockwork orange is a great book, i read it in like 3 days

It's weird how I started reading Hey Nostradamus, a book about a school shooting, like 3-4 days before there actually was one >.>

When I was younger I loved the movie. I read the book when I was about 18 or 19 and from then on hated the movie. The book is so much better. The psychologival breakdown in the movie just seemed so "simple." The book is one of my favorites. I evn liked the Steven Webber TV version from a few years ago better than the Kubrik film, because it was more like the book.
