Does it still have the downright cringe-inducing harmonic vocals that were in Dr. Psycho and Plasma Zombies? Cause I don't think I could take another album of that. I'll probably get it though, I have the entire discography, but I'm really not sure even Jeff Loomis can salvage the walkng trainwreck that is Dave Padden.

Hmmm, if I'm not totally mistaken on what kind of vocal work you refer to here, yes it still does have them. He is slightly more harsh on some of the songs, but if you didn't dig him on the 2 previous records, I doubt that things will be any different here.

This album is TERRIBLE, it should have been crap of the month. I dont see how this album deserves to be even close to 75/100, more like 25/100

Nice review. Can't wait for my reactions as well. I'll prolly pick this up this week.

But I just hate the album title. C.O.E already did this in 2000, and already back then I felt extremely annoyed, fortunately I was proven wrong with the greatness of the album. Then in 2004 Messiah's Kiss put out "Metal" with an always-excellent-Luis-Royo cover art which had no actual relation to the title and I was annoyed again. You can imagine how irritated I felt this time!
It's like if you can't think of any better title to describe your album than the ultimate cliché "Metal" then you'd better DEFINE metal with that album!! No one's gonna do that at present time, maybe in the 80's it would have worked.*

(*Well, apparently Manilla Road did, but judging from the reviews it wasn't that metal anyway nor that good. I listened to 4 clips from it, seemed a bit trippy...)

I couldn't agree more. Totally uninspired, dull, tired and recycled garbage, featuring the single most annoying vocalist I've heard in a band signed to a major label for metal. Dave Padden needs to go shoot himself and Jeff Waters needs to fucking stop making music. This album is so bad it made all the plants near my speakers die. Absolutely unlistenable.

Been a fan since Alice In Hell suppose it's the sort of band you know what to expect nothing really changes more of the same and Jeff is one of the best guitarists in metal.

WORD SALAD! NO BALLAD!! = Alll for youuuuuu

I think not.

Anyway I just listened to this and, yeah, Padden still sucks the fat 'un. Some of the music is really good (unsurprisingly the parts with Jeff Loomis shredding are the highlight), much of it is awful rubbish. Pfffft.

Can they please stop making music? They have two good albums (Alice in Hell, Carnival Diablos) and one okay one (Never, Neverland). Besides that, this band blows and will likely always blow.

I've always thought an idea like bringing in different soloists for every song would be cool, but on the other hand I heard Shizo Deluxe and couldn't stand the vocals at all... I might check it out someday :P

Surprising, with arguably the very very best drummer currently breathing...
