You could always try Doom:vs - Aeternum Vale, in my eyes one of the best albums of 2006

Nah, if I was going to help someone get into funeral doom, I would suggest either diSEMBOWELMENT or their proteges Evoken. Both have a sort of funeral doom/death metal sound. For a more orchestral and sad type of funeral doom, try Shape of Despair.

Funeral's old albums are tough to get into for a first timer as they're kind of rough and underproduced. This new album is definitely not funeral doom, though, so I wouldn't start here. This is almost more representative of My Dying Bride style of doom than anything else.

Pretty much a doom noob. Only thing I can think of that I've really liked that has anything to do with the style is Doomsword.

This album has grown on me though, Ive had the promo for a couple months or so now and I think this album deserves about an 82% and its definately earned a spot on my insanely long purchase list. Currently my favorite track is This Barren Skin.
