Children of Men. What an incredible and depressing film. This and Pan's Labrynth were robbed at the Oscars.

I wanted to see that, but I was put off by reading a lot of reviews which said it had a rather nasty subtext about how immigrants are making stuff so awful for us white folk. :lame: Pan's Labyrinth looks very good, I like surreal, disturbing stuff.

Thats about as bad of an analysis of the film as you can get. One of the main themes of the film concerns the horrible treatment of immigrants and the horrors of an anti-immigration society. Way to completely miss the point (it seems kind of like saying that George Lucas supports the blowing up of planets because he included it in his movies). Ya, you have nothing to worry about there. Go see this (its out on video now) and Pan's Labyrinth as soon as you can!

The Good Shepherd...stupid and convoluted. Very poorly done.

Thanks for that. I wasn't talking about my own views, just some reviews I've read which "missed the point" If it does have anti-anti-immigration views, that's a laudable action, as few people are speaking out on the disgusting treatment of immigrants, something that seems to (sadly) be on the rise over here.

Indeed. And so slow and boring...with several bizarre references to homosexuality. A friend of mine and I saw it in the theatre and really thought that DeNiro was trying to make some sort of statement about homosexuality or perhaps his own sexuality---figuring that out was much more interesting than the actual plot of the movie.

Blood Diamond - a good movie about bad stuff happening in Africa. It kinda made me laugh though because I kept thinking of it as a fantasy movie in some strange land where the black people are the natives... and the movie kind of fit that train of thought >.>

Also it's funny when Jennifer Connelly is taking pictures of the people in the refugee camp it's like a tourist taking pictures of animals at the zoo. and lol at the love scene music playing when Dicaprio says "mom was raped then shot...dad was decapitated and hung in the barn"

It's a very leftie film, I thought (which is a good thing, obviously!). Same sorta idea as that of V For Vendetta, but a much better film. Even Clive Owen does ok! :)

Watched Miss Potter with the family. All together now: Aaaaaaahhhh.

US vs John Lennon - Interesting for Lennon fans. Like me!
Enduring Love - Great film, but not sure I got it all. Needs re-watching.

Wilderness Survival for Girls - a decent low budget movie about 3 girls who go to a cottage but get interrupted by the guy whose been squatting there. Reminded me of Falling Angels or Hard Candy because it accomplished a lot with less than 5 not very good actors, one or two sets, and a good script :P

Am I the only one that didn't think Children of Men was that good? I mean, the world it was set in was very interesting, but there were some blaring flaws in the storyline (like why the hell they didn't just take the girl to the government) that made it a lot worse than expected.

I think because he assumed that since the pregnant woman was an immigrant the government would kill her or whatnot, or that it wasn't worth taking the chance.

and uhh, lulz@brahm_K. medium length wavey hair ftw!! :D

What noodles said makes sense but I'd also add the fact that the government may take advantage of her pregnancy like other groups may have by using her as a political Icon for their cause. Which they totally wanted to avoid. She's not a circus freak and not a political object she wanted to be respected as she deserved: a human being.

The Devil Wears Prada. I don't recall much of the movie because I spent so much time staring at Anne Hathaway's lips and thinking "slurp"...

I thought Ellen Paige did a great job in Hard Candy. (I'm assuming 'not very good actors' means less famous)

RW - The Butterfly Effect 2. It was shit.

If you are interested the righteous treatment of immigrants, then I recommend you see the film Ghosts by Nick Broomfield, about the Chinese cockle pickers that drowned in 2004.

Then you can join me at Marxism 2007, where the director will be discussing it :dio: :P

I hear that's very good, but a bit heavy. I hardly ever have time to see films though, as I'm constantly up to my eyeballs in homework.
