Krieg is german for war. ist is...... is? It all comes from the Nargaroth album Black Metal Ist Krieg, which would be black metal is war.

But i guess now people use it in ways that dont make sense. :D

.. yeah.. like Pizza ist Krieg... Pizza is awsome, good, cool etc :P .. prolly natural, since almost nobody outside germany/scandinavia knows what the fuck it means. "hmm.. Black metal ist krieg.. hmm.. must mean Black Metal is awsome or k3wl.. what a lame title!"

I only know what Krieg means because of the band Krieg, and many bands use the word krieg in album titles. (MetalArchives tells me all lol)

Yeah i really do wonder if people use ist krieg wrongly because its funny to do so, or whether they really think it means 'is cool'. Hee hee :D

Krieg is German... What does Norway have to do with it? Is it a Norwegian word too? I know it's a Norwegian band, but I think they used the German word because of Kanwulf, no?

No reason to be taught languages here.

"Ist Kaiser" or even better "ist der Koenig" would have worked here for "Is King".

But then "Ist der Koenig" sounds slightly too close to "Ist der Konig", which means "is the honey" :dio:

Not more than 2 mandatory years of one language in high school.....even then it's usually basic spanish that everyone picks.

you know, this thread is asking for those "basketball ist krieg", "cooking ist krieg" etc. pics right about now.

embarassing fact: i used to think the "ist" meant "1st" (because sometimes the i was capitalized), and that "black metal ist krieg" referred to the first wave, or attack, of black metal.

.. if not Norwegian, at least, "Krig", is the danish word for war. It is, however, not pronounced the same way - [kri]

Proof: Taken from directly the wikipedia article on "umlauts": When typing German, if umlaut letters are not available, the proper way is to replace them with the underlying vowel and a following <e>. So, for example, "Schröder" becomes "Schroeder".

Crast wins. Forget Norway, Nargaroth made it up, and Nargaroth are German, so it means is war.

Moonblood are German right? Blut und Krieg means Blood and War?

There's some other band too, Ewiges Reich maybe, who had an album called Kreig, Hass, Tod. War, Hate, Death?

hmm.. how can u pretend to be norse with a german word?!?

and Mies.. shame on you... Krieg was formed in 95 and Nargaroth's Black Metal ist Krieg was released in 2001.

and the norwegian word for war, is as Jürgen said, "krig"
