Where is the Satan review I was promised.....

I haven't forgotten, and it will get one, I promise. I have been extremely busy lately as I get closer to the birth of my daughter. I usually write reviews on the weekend since it's the only free time I have lately, and I finally have a few weekends coming up where I won't be going out of town. Just trust me, it's coming...soon, as is the Kreator - Coma of Souls classic review.

And the Pagan Altar review right? :) , no really take your time man, there is no rush, oh and congratulations about your daughter.

But then again, do we really want to set a precedent for putting Nevermore in the classics section? As a responsible citizen, I think not.

I hear you man, im gonna write a letter to my congressman.
Nevermore deserves their own section on this site. :dio:

Not sure if you'll put it as a classic but I would like to see Nightwish's Oceanborn reviewed.

Nightwish being put in the classics seems like a bit of a travesty to me.

Indeed. And if it happens before SA, it's outright blasphemy.

Bullshit. Ecliptica is the only SA album that could even be mentioned in a discussion about classic metal albums. I'd say it's a masterpiece of an album, I would give it a score in the lower/mid 90s, but I don't see how it's a classic. It's only seven years old, and not exactly unique in any way (just a more melodic and possibly even better version of Stratovarius' Visions). If it had been released in 1997 it would have been a classic, as it's better than most of the debut albums released that year (Rhapsody, Edguy, Hammerfall, Nightwish etc) but I really don't think it can be considered a classic. In a few years maybe, but not yet.

The sound on Oceanborn, on the other hand, was pretty unique back in 1998, and has exploded in popularity since then, with Nightwish as one of the forerunners. It's also, in my humble opinion of course, just as good if not better than Ecliptica. I would say Oceanborn might be a classic, while Ecliptica is definitely not a classic yet. Anyway, Oceanborn deserves a review, and Ecliptica deserves a better review than the current one, which is pretty terrible.

there are plenty of albums that should receive attention before both of those albums...not including the ones I mentioned.

Not all of them are classics, but I think early Immortal should be reviewed.

I really am grateful for the review. It is the best thing I have seen on this website thus far, and i agree with everything said in it, not that I have to agree to like it. Being a metal purist I get a little upset when i see Nevermore and Nightwish being heralded as metal classics when bands like Satan and Heavy Load are for the most part ignored. Also being a fan of history I think it's very important to honor your ancestors, in this case Satan (the band).

As into classic stuff as you are, I think you would be a good candidate to fill in the "holes" in our review database, which is something we need on the staff. If you're interested, send Mike a PM or an email. Apparently there was a guy on the staff at one time whose sole purpose was to review classic/archive material, but he disappeared I guess.

Cryptopsy - None So Vile

Doesn't have to be a classic, but it most definately should be reviewed.

It's definitely a classic, and hopefully someday soon I can get to it.

No, I wouldn't say that. Mike has been out of town this week, I believe. He will get back to you, just give him time.
