I would read that but I have my CD player way up loud.

I've only recently noticed that some records are louder than others. For instance, you have to turn Tool's Undertow to full volume to get the same volume as Blood Mountain at half. The Cult Is Alive is another very loud album.

I always noticed the difference between music recorded for vinyl and music recorded for CD... I never really thought of CDs from the early 90s as much quieter than CDs from now until I read the article and compared.

Fuck. Another thing to be nit picky about now that I am aware of it. I often have thought that newer records have a sort of less dynamic sound but i couldn't really put my finger on why I thought that. That article did give an answer (and good metaphor) for why mp3's suck and it explained why Oasis is popular (somethign i have never been able to fathom)

Very interesting article. I'll have to see if I notice this sort of thing now, although I'm not sure if very many of the newer cd's that I do have would exemplify this or not. Pelican's "The Fire..." comes to mind as being a particularly loud album for one, however...

For me Converge are a good example of this - Jane Doe is a very, very loud record all the way through (and it works lol), but You Fail Me and No Heroes have a lot more dynamics volume wise.
