Children of Men - Good, but a minor disappointment I must say.

School for Scoundrels - Urgh, I despise John Heder with every fiber of my being. Watching a 2h long "comedy" starring him as the main character was almost unbearable.

Pirates of the Carribean 3

I thought it was very good, especially for how popular it is. Tons of great action, and full of humor at the same time. It did have a relatively complicated plot, with tons of twists. May have turned a lot of people off, but I thought it added a lot of depth to the story.

My dad (master's degree in philosophy XD) thought it was plotless and boring.

Latest episode of Trailer Park Boys. This season is so good compared to last season. Last season was so bad they cut it to only 6 episodes. But what a come back this season is. Fine Canadian programming.

Apocalypto - Not that good. Visually and setting, nice, but story and actual implementation I didn't like. Mel Gibson's a hack who relies on gimmicks (It's in Mayan! It's got real live Mayans in it!) rather than actually make a good film. This felt a little too much like some 19th century Victorian 'noble savage' shit for me.

I saw Apocalypto yesterday and thought it was great. I really love the way the characters are introduced and the depiction of the villagers life. The action is really well done and acting is great. I didn't see the Mayan dialog as a gimmick as I thought it gave the movie more credibility and immersed me into the movie and Mayan civilization a lot more than if it would have been English spoken. Costumes and sets where exceptional. I wasn't expecting much from this movie I was pleasantly surprised.

8/10 for me

I just watched it last night and I loved it. I loved everything about it. I agree with everything grandbazaar said, except I'll give it a 9/10.

Running With Scissors - A pretty fun movie. Schizophrenic in more ways than one. I think it would have been better if they'd made the "quirkyness" of the characters a little more subtle though.

I loved that movie. I heard the book is a lot better (as usual).

Notes on a Scandal - Brilliant film. Judi Dench is awesome, and Bill Nighy gets better every time I see him.

I agree, until to the end of the movie when it got more serious it was terrific. Frost and Pegg are hilarious together (note the tv show "Spaced"), and I liked all the cameos from other British shows such as "Shameless", "The Office", and even "Rome".

Life Is Beautiful - Meh. I can tolerate Roberto Benigni's nearly annoying 'acting', but it felt like a dumbed-down, whitewashed version of the Holocaust rather than something approaching the horror of what actually happened. Schindler's List is still the best 'caust film around, despite its faults.

I agree with you about Schindler's List, but Life is Beautiful was so creative. I thought it was really clever. Instead of random killing, and showing all the different ways the Nazis could murder people, they showed a father's love for his son. I don't know, I thought it was great.

Have you ever seen The Pianist? If you havn't check it out.

I really like this movie, but my main gripe with it is that as far as the story goes, it could have been set anytime and anywhere. The potential for exploring the Mayan civilisation in more detail would have been enormous ((and most importantly, entertaining). For example; when the prisoners are being "disposed of" they are taken to an area that strongly resembled the ballcourt. When I saw this at the cinema I sat up straight thinking "Oh...yeah...". But instead of forcing the prisoners to partake in this very brutal game - where the losing team gets decapitated and the winners allowed to go (as was a common Mayan ritual) - they were simply made to run the gauntlet. Decisions to include scenes such as that would have given the film much more credibility and weight. Plus it would have been very straight forward to film.

Anyway, I'll still get it on dvd when it comes out here.
