About 100 pages short of finishing A Storm of Swords now, Tyrion has become quite a character and Daenerys chapters have gotten alot better, still my least favorite though.

Best book in the series so far IMO.

You've peaked my interests. On Wikipedia I noticed the author also wrote Bubba Ho Tep. The Drive In books aren't in Wikipedia so is there anywhere you can link me to on the internet to check them out.

I'm currently reading Bertrand Russell's The Problems of Philosophy. Great overview of modern philosophy.

LIke the dork that I am I read this for own personal interests and I kind of enjoyed it. I don't know if I always recognized a lot of symbolism but I am definitely noticing more in movies and books after reading that.

I'm enjoying it a lot too. I love reading fancy literature stuff. If I didn't have to read it over the summer, I probably would've read it anyway. :dio:

Any good?

I finally finished Anna Comena's Alexiad and now I'm taking a temporary break from history with some lighter reading: Dosteovsky's Brothers Karamazov.

It's started off promising. I love the man's occasional dry humor, it really serves as a nice counterpoint to all the weight material. I read War and Peace a few years ago and that had me floored for months; I'm hopeful this generates a similar reaction.

don't know about The Brothers Karamazov, but i didn't like Crime and Punishment at all. Raskolnikoff's inner conflict just didn't grab me at all, i can't see how it's such a problem for him.

I totally agree with that. I tried really really hard to like Crime and Punishment but it just felt like a rambling mess, and the central character is very hard to understand or sympathise with.

I couldn't relate to Raskolnikov but I could understand his plight. He felt like he was better than others and that he had a right to murder the one lady and even Lizaveta. He thought of himself as a Napoleon stuck living in poverty.

Notes from the Underground is smaller and much more readable example of Dostoevsky's general style. Great work of early existentialism as well.

A Game of Thrones.

And failing at it. Too many families. Must concentrate. But it's too hot.
Damn I should have read it in winter when I had the time.

at the beginning it's a bit confusing because it's like you're expected to know who's who and what where and uhhh, but after a few quick visits of the appendix you'll be ok. after the starks receive their guests you won't have to look that often.

Yeah, I also felt it was a bit confusing during the first hundred pages or so but then it all falls into place gradually. And it's an amazing read, you'll start liking almost every single character of them all! I feel a bit ashamed that I never got around reading the 3rd book.

Well I'll give it a tackle. Since I bought 3 books of the series, I had better.
