I too like Constant Motion, and of course, I love the album overall.

I do agree that there are some Metallica/Nevermore-esk parts, but just because DT decides to interlude thrash or a detuned guitar sound doesn't mean they are ripping other bands off. I feel they are simply putting their own spin on the sound, which I think they do very well (evident by the tracks Constant Motion and The Dark Eternal Night). In fact, it is my opinion that they can pretty much pull of any style and/or sound that they want to, they are that talented.

I have always appreciated Dream Theater and really feel they don't have a bad album. Nothing will touch Images and Words, but Systematic Chaos is a killer album. 94/100 for me.

They're definitely ripping Muse off on Prophets of War :dio:

i wouldn't say that constant motion is a rip off of metallica at all. maybe a litle vocal wise, but metallica were about palm muted power chord over and over.

either way. i think it is a very great album from my favorite band. a couple of weak spots and it is far from the brilliance of six degrees or scenes, but as long as they consistently make great or even good albums i'll be satisfied.

my only complaints are:

forsaken - killer song, but it seems too easy for them.
receptance - just because it's part of the AA theme doesn't mean you need to include This Dying Soul into each part after it! This Dying Soul didn't take anything from Glass Prison so I see no need in it. otherwise, decent song.
Ministry of Lost Souls - Boring. Worst song Dream Theater has done since Falling Into Infinity. Not a bad song, but with Dream Theater's standards, FAIL.

I would give it a 90 probably just because I'm biased, and because In the Presence of Enemies is just so good. Also, Dark Eternal Night is probably the heaviest song that they have ever done. Is moshing to dream theater possible? I guess it is now.

Im addicted to Dream Theater and this is def the best album they have put out in forever, every song rules. Especially ITPOE Pt 1 and 2. Heres how i'd rate it compared to the last 2.

Train of Thought - 89/100
Octavarium - 70/100
SC - 95/100

i'd alo rate Images and Words, Six Degrees and SFAM all in the high 90s....

Awake like an 85

it's funny though because although you can hear the muse influence completely, neither of the songs sound like anything that muse would ever consider doing.

Wow, I would say Forsaken and Ministry of Lost Souls are the 2 best tracks on the album (I feel the album as a whole is very strong though - much better than their last effort)

On Octavarium the song Panic Attack is straight from muse.

Odd. I find those to be the 2 weakest tracks on the album. To each his own I guess.

That'll never happen. Labrie can't hit the high notes for a start, and from what Mike Portnoy says in interviews, he wants DT to be modern.

Well, they've always moved with the times, so every album has had modern touches.

No objections there, but it would be something new if they went even more modern. They've never been like Tool or any of those bands.

Not true. Watch their latest DVD and you'll think otherwise. I'd actually have to say he is better than ever.

Felt abit letdown with this one initially because Repentance was the second song I heard off of it and even now I dont like it very much. The rest of the album ranges from good to excellent and both The Dark Eternal Night and Prophets of War are among some of the best songs I've heard all year.

I think my attitude toward the album changed alot the second I bought it, you really cant tell the quality of an album (well, a little) from mp3s. Not to mention the dvd thingy with the special edition shed some light on what some of the songs are about and how they were recorded, which made them alot more interesting seeing that process.

87/100

Ick. People who say this is better than Octavarium are crazy.

Compared to the previous, aforementioned album, this sounds very bland and lifeless -- hardly like "systematic chaos". More like a "plodding void".

Leave the chaos to Meshuggah, DT. Get Kevin Moore back and cut the bullshit.

IMO, really awesome album, some really killer stuff, especially ITPOE part 2, Forsaken, Dark Eternal Night and Constant Motion. Also, the DVD alone is almost worth the price of the limited edition, that was funny.
