Another hyped movie just because it's supposed to be good. I found it ok and nothing more. It was boring for the most part actually.

I haven't seen that yet but I like Almodovar's other movies about humping girls in comas and crossdressers and stuff. I assumed it's less esoteric because its got Ms. Cruz in it and stuff

Hey, I'm no feminist. Women don't deserve to be treated better than men.

It's a funny thing, equality isn't it? People say men and women should be treated equally, but I could punch out someone who was being a dick, and people wouldn't care. But if it did the same thing to a woman acting like that, I'd be the one labeled the asshole.

Not saying that's right or wrong mind you, but I am saying if we had true equality, we'd have a lot of things people wouldn't be happy about.

It's lame to think of "equality" as just being able to say "well I can do this to one group of people therefore I can do it to them as well". That's the logic that leads to dumb questions like "well if black people can call themselves niggers then why can't I call them that, that's racist against whites oh noes"

Equality does not mean everybody is the same, it means everyone must be treated equally regardless of conditions determined arbitrarily at birth. Therefore feminist notions of equality are not PRIMARILY about whether you are allowed to beat up them or not, although of course societal responses to that question is highly relevant, look at the Middle East. Rather it is everything to do with the fact that women are still paid less for doing the same jobs as men in the developed world, and are more likely to be horrifically exploited in the developing world, due, I'm sorry to say it, to the patriarchal nature of the "meritocratic" vision of society we have constructed for ourselves. Feminists often say that "maleness" is something we value inherently in our leaders. For Bush or Blair to present themselves as "manly" is seen as a good way of getting approval. But fuck, had Thatcher presented herself as "womanly" then she would have been laughed out of office in her first week.

So, er, films watched recently, eh?

If women were equal to men, they wouldn't have had to bitch about being equal in the first place.

It's funny because it's true.

I watched Joe Dante's mini-film from the MoH series 1 called Homecoming.

What a wierd, wierd, funny idea: Republican strategist promoting his party's re-election bid wishes live on a TV news show that all the dead soliders killed in "a controversial war against an Islamic country" (whatever the hell that could be referring to I have no idea) could come back to life to tell voters what a noble cause it was.

His wish is granted, but it turns out once the dead come back, they start voting Democrat!

I really liked the idea of what triggers the zombie magic in this film: Instead of radiation or voodoo or a virus, it's something EVEN MORE IMPLAUSIBLE: A moment of actual sincerity on cable news!

There's also a young-to-middle-aged blonde woman into S&M who makes a massive living from calling anti-war types traitors on cable tv, whos surname is "Cleaver". I was stumped as to who this could be a reference to.

Wacky and entertaining film, but it starts bringing subplots into it in an attempt to give it emotional weight, which really doesn't work. The main plot itself could be so cool that it really doesn't need any distractions. Trying to bring in the Republican strategist protagonists family history was done really clumsily.

Sadly, really not that scary either. So it kind of fell down as a zombie film. Really it's just a novelty, but I'd recommend watching it if you're into that sort of thing.

But wow, it takes a hell of a lot of bollocks to claim you know what dead soldiers opinions would be if they were brought back to life...

I was going to watch that because it sounded like a really clever idea. I must have forgotten all about it though.

It's hard to get hold of here unless you're willing to pay for the boxed set that it's a part of. And that's REALLY not worth doing unless you're a massive horror fan. Sometimes the series is on TV here though, in very obscure places like Bravo and Ftn.

Just continue watching them for free. Sometimes the films to come out of Moh are just plain bad, and not in a humourous way like Tales From the Crypt.

Man I knew there was a reason why female comedians' acts always consisted of "omg a girl that is actually talking about *sex* giggle giggle giggle"

I saw a female comedian live and she insulted my home town, implying everyone there was thick!

Well I never!

Most MoH can be rented individually at video stores (in the US at least.)

X-Files : Fight The Future

Great movie that answers too many questions left unanswered by
the first five seasons and leaves some for later. You see the Mulder's and Scully's relationship get even stronger than ever and they almost...Kiss, classic X-files!

True Romance - great action/romance movie, I liked it more than any other Tarrantino-related movie I've seen... probably because Patricia Arquette and basically all of the supporting cast kick ass. Her fight seen with the guy from the Sopranos is one of the best in movie history
