The Contract - Laughable. This movie belongs in the 90's. Big names with a horrible story and horrible acting. Wow what a waste of time that was. 2/10

Superbad - Uhh... comedy of the year. I laughed the entire way through. 9.5/10

Yeah I was sad when I saw the cast of that movie then heard it sucked :(

300 - better than I expected but not as good as it could have been, for basically the reason this comic brings up:

Image

seriously it took like 40 minutes for fighting to actually start (the start could at least have been used to flesh out the characters of the captain and his son and that other guy or something) and the evil counsel dude side-plot was totally pointless. also it needed more non-slowed down action scenes.

Lol @ that. A River Tam spin-off would be rather cool.

You probably already know that the movie is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel of the same title and is quite faithful to it. Other than the inherent nature of novels (graphical inlcuded) being generally slower in action than movies, you can't blame an author like Frank Miller for creating it in that way since he didn't have in mind then that it'd become a movie after some years. You could complain about the director or screenplay writers for not having more action scenes but then it wouldn't be so faithful to the original novel, would it ? It's always a risky business addapting novels etc on the big screen since there are always those who want a pure movie and those who want a true addaptation of the original.

I found 300 to be an excellent movie. The first 40 minutes or so, I thought were very important in giving back-story about the Spartan culture and how they came to be at odds with the Persians. It was also vital in setting up the corruption that was taking place within Sparta. We needed to know that the Persians had already begun to bribe high ranking Spartan council members and they, in turn, were buying off those creepy priests on the mountain top.

I'd just like to say the vast majority of 'graphic novels' (ie, comics for people ashamed to admit to reading comics) are bloody awful. Even Preacher got old quickly.

I saw Hairspray with my girlfriend three days ago. Very funny (albeit cute) movie. I recommend everybody who's interested in early-60's musicals sees it.

Sunshine - Not bad, not that great. Rose Byrne and a brilliant soundtrack kept it from being complete crap.

Blades of Glory - stupid and quite unfunny 5/10

i agree with noodles that the whole "political intrigue" thing was completely unnecessary, and i add that the wife's speech was completely fucking cliche and should be edited out in future releases of the movie.

the slowed down action scenes were ok, my problem was that there weren't enough action scenes (slow or otherwise). even after they meet up with the Persians there's still a hell of a lot of talk going on. the beginning was fine, it set the scene and all that.

as for being true to the original work, i think that most people weren't familiar with Miller's work in the first place, and that given the trailer etc. it really needed more action.

all in all it was still a good movie, but disappointing action-wise.

Seriously...anyone who likes sex jokes MUST see this. Which is, of course, everyone.

Fistful of Dollars - nice movie, wasn't quite as epic as The Good the band and the Ugly though.

indeed

anybody seen Die Hard 4? I've heard it should be rather awsome.

Saw Snakes on a Plane today. It was rather cheesy as expected, however, when a movie such as this aims to be cheesy it ruins the cheesiness and makes it a bit lame instead. But there's some elements i like, and if it wasn't for its aim to be cheesy, i'd say it was a "awsome" movie.

That movie was like a parody of cheesy movies that forgot the parody part and ende dup just being cheese.

that "get off my dick, snake!" is one of the best lines i've ever heard. other than that, though, very few lol moments, and disappointing overall. the blatant playstation product placement didn't help either.

The trailer's pretty cool. Plus, the girl playing his daughter's rather hot. All in all, should be good.
