I'm reading The Devil: A Biography by Peter Stanford. I heard about it on an old MTV interview with him talking about the Norwegian church burnings. The little news segment also had an interview with Ihsahn at the site of one of the church's ruins. So far, the book is portraying the roots and development of Satan as an entity very well.

WOT 5: The Fires Of Heaven - Robert Jordan

I hate big fantasy books with small print. So far so good, though.

He died yesterday

I wonder what they'll do for the last book.

May he rest in peace. This took me by such surprise when I found out this morning- he was always so positive about his illness that I took it as a given that he would be all right. Fantasy has lost a great- despite the flaws in some later books, Jordan's series was incredibly ambitious and revolutionary, and I have derived hours upon hours of pleasure from reading his books. My condolences to his wife and family.

"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose.... The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of time. But it was a beginning."

As for his last book, RJ began writing it, and left extensive notes and instructions to his wife and cousin- chances are it'll be given to another writer, hopefully one who can do RJ justice.

R.I.P. indeed. Though 7-10 definitely had their flaws, the first 6 captured me like no other series has. I'm reading 11 right now, and it's a great return to form IMO. I'm really glad they're not going to leave the series unfinished--it's been so long and epic that it would really be a shame if there was no book 12. Hopefully, an established fantasy author will step up to the job. It will be odd having part of the book written by Jordan himself and the rest written by somebody else.

Well, I just finished my re-read of George RR Martin's A Storm of Swords and Feast For Crows, thus finishing my yearly A Song of Ice and Fire re-read. Am now reading:

Stephen King - Lisey's Story

So far, quite weird, but good. Like it more than Cell...

I don't think I've ever loved so many characters and hated them all just the same. Damn these books and their silly twists!

my uncle ordered A Clash of Kings from Amazon, should be here any time now.

meanwhile i'm reading Dune and Mario Puzo's The Last Don (Puzo seems like a one trick pony to me, but still).

Dune is cool but sometimes when he starts saying how Paul feels a wave of prescience as times unfolds itself in riples and contours bla bla bla it looks like even the author doesn't know wtf he's going on about!

Yep, he is. The only book of his I've found remotely enjoyable has been The Godfather- everything else kind of sucks.

ha ha, wouldn't surprise me. 2 other things that really get to me in Dune are the way he never uses "and" (i.e. he writes "he went to the door, opened it" or "he grabbed the gun, shot him") and "HER SUPER-COOL BENE GESSERIT TRAINING allowed her to sense/see/feel the way they..." FFS I GET IT ALREADY, JESSICA HAS MAD SKILLS!

The Naming Of The Dead - Ian Rankin

Not really a Rebusaholic, but seem to have read most of the books in this series, and they're pretty good.

I liked Perdido Street Station but found it overrated, and really loved The Scar. I hear this one is the worst he's released, but I'm hoping to enjoy it. Its communism!

They can all seem to drag a bit, I found, but he's a good writer. Should read them again, if not buy them... Avoid the short stories, not as good.
