I have to completely agree with Jay.

Burzum is shit. Just complete shit, and it's not even a preference thing. The drummer is so fucking bad (he doesn't do anything), the guitarists are constantly slipping off time! The vocalist is just... well he's ridiculous, and bad (this is coming from a vocalist). And yes, the production is shit, but even with good production it would still be terrible. The music is so fucking boring and retarded.

I'm sorry, but I don't know how you can say that you know good music and like this shit. Because that's what it is: shit. The fact that they're pseudo-nazis is all the more reason to despise them. Idiots generally make idiotic music, and this is no exception.

The best part is that Burzum is one guy.

Actually, even if those premises were true there'd be no contradiction. So are you saying you reject reason or that you just don't understand what it is?

What reason is there to to like Burzum?

The musicianship? The offtime and boring guitars? The drums that he quite honestly just cannot play at all? or maybe the ridiculously horrible vocals?

The message? White Aryan Resistance? Neo-nazism? That's what this retard and his music are all about, so don't tell me I'm missing some underlying message.

The songwriting? Ha! The songs don't change up at all, and they were never any good in the first place.

The production? I don't think so...

There is NOTHING redeeming about this band. If anyone is not listening to reason, it's the people supporting this band. Jay's right for being firm on this: it would be a crime to list this as a classic. If you want to review it, fine, but it deserves about a 2. And that's being generous (I'd give it a 0).

The drums are not the great, but I'm not a drum expert. The guitar playing is nothing spectacular, but it's still good. And The vocals are, in my opinion, the best in black metal.

The production? It's black metal, production isn't that big of an issue, if even one at all. I mean, production that's so bad you have to turn up your stereo to the max just to hear a faint whisper of music is one thing, but as long as it is intelligeble on some level, that's all it needs.

I honestly don't see how you can think there are no emotion or feeling in any Burzum, when I listen to it and see a canvas filled with emotion. And that's a lot of why I love Burzum.

And you can go on and on about the message when you run out of things to bitch about. But, even though the message isn't one I agree with, I will say that the lyrics are superbly written.

I will still stand by my thought that Hvis Lyset Tar Oss is the best black metal album I have ever heard.

I think that what makes HLTO so great is the atmosphere, the canvas filled with emotion as Zefferon said, and the incredible feeling of hypnosis you get when listening to it; there are so many bands that try to imitate Burzum's sound but they simply can't; I mean if it's so crapy music, how come no one can imitate it, you say the guitar workit's simple, that the drums do nothing at all, etc etc, but no band ever, has recreated Burzum's sound. It's original, it's fresh, it's inspiring, it's.....simply great.

Several comments on this one:

First of all, no one in this site comes and tells you that the music you hear is retarded, so get yourself some maners, you punk, or go to one of those fuckin' trendy forums like Kerrang, where you can discuss how cool the production on the new Atreyu album is.

Second if you've got the balls to critizise one of the biggest Black Metal bands, also have the brains to do the minimum of investigation. Burzum = Varg, Varg = Burzum, no other musicians. Who in this world is gonna think you have a strong and intelligent opinion when it's obious you know crap about the most common subjects in a genre.

Third, this is what happens when a stupid un-polite punk comes and posts in a respected site I love. You don't have to agree with everything people say on this site but you sure have to be polite so get some manners people or get the fuck out of here. As a very respected person has in it's signature: "Remember we're Metal, not an ass-kissing whore".

Fuck me, this guy sure made me curse  ............. sorry. :?

Well said. That out of the way... when it comes to Burzum, I don't especially enjoy the earliest stuff, love Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and Filesofem to death, and appreciate Hlidjiskaf or however the fuck you spell it.

Balder's Dod/Daudi Balders is too repetitive, and the other two early albums just don't GRAB me like HLTO does.

I would like Savatage -Streets: A rock Opera, a timeless masterpìece that is so underrated, they dont have the credits they deserve, most of all for this album, which gave us some of the most finest music moments ever, songs like Tonight He Grins Again and Believe are some of the greatest songs ever written, with lots of feelings and the amazing angel like singing of Jon Oliva and the greatest guitar player ever his brother Criss Oliva(RIP), who died 11 years ago(what a tragedy), this album was released 1 year before The Crimson Idol was, and the story its even more powerful and touching than the WASP album, every song on it its just perfect, you will find pure heavy metal anthems(Jesus Saves), and yet moving ballads that could bring the most macho into tears, thats all I have to say

Candlemass - "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" or "Nightfall". If a doom metal CD ever should be reviewed as a classic, it should be one of these!

Celtic Frost - "To Mega Therion" or "Into the Pandemonium". Not my kind of metal but they influenced the extreme metal scene almost as much as Venom and Bathory.

In Flames - The Jester Race

If I do a Celtic Frost classic, it's gonna be Morbid Tales. Into the Pandemonium was lousy, and I never heard To Mega Therion.

Don't know about deathkvlt, though.

To Mega Therion is great album. The Usurper, Dawn of Meggido, Circle of Tyrants, ect. This albums just filled to the brim is wonderful songs.

And you should feel sad for not listening to it.

I suppose I'll try to find it then. Thanks for the recommendation.
